I'm looking to get a new phone? Not really worried about email or surfing just talking and texting.
Get an iPhone.
I have had a Palm Treo' and 2 Blackberry's.
My wife has an iPhone and I am getting one in Jan.
SOme people don't like the iPhone and those are the people who haven't owned one and are scared of technology.
If you want a basic phone to make phone calls.....get the free one that comes with your plan.

get the HTC Eris, you won't be sorry. I am very serious and it took me about a year to make my decision. :scared

I might try this out before I buy it......hear good things about this phone.....anyway, it is either this or an iphone.
I've got an I-phone and absolutely love it, but I would not recommend it if you only want a phone to talk and text on. You don't need an I-phone unless you want Internet.
My wife has the MOT Droid which has better sound and video quality but the slide out keyboard makes it big and bulky. This Eris is small and has a nice feel to it. If Verizon had the iphone, that's what I would have gotten, but they don't and I didn't
Now that I have this Eris, I wouldn't even consider switching to any other phone.
