Above the Clouds....
All these extra measures are being implemented in the US. Are they being implemented overseas as well?

Are the govenrments where the terrorists originate as strict and do the screening as we do here?

Just wondering because when I flew out of Mex. last year there was a guy yelling that you did not have to take your shoes off this isn't America!

I've been to quite a few airports that don't make you take your shoes off

Now they LET you bring lighters, now that I don't need them :mj07:

Takes a half hour to get through the line, take your shoes off, take the belt off, computer out of the bag, change and keys on their own. . . . and then I forget that I have a 10 oz. bottle of saline in my bag. . . . and then what do they do?

"Is that Saline Solution, Sir?"

"Yes"

"OK"

This is the dumbest system

And then when they do the spot checks and they can get a gun through security no problem . . . . AND THEN THEY REPORT THAT!!!!. . . .WTF

Flying out of the UK tomorrow will let you know how it goes. I was in the air while the Delta flight stuff was going on.

A couple years ago I went through airport security and they found a round of .22 caliber ammunition in my bag. It was in my laptop bag and somehow found its way to the very bottom and tucked itself into a dark, padded corner.

The TSA agent pulled me aside - then scanned my entire body for residue of bomb making materials. No cavity checks though.....

Then they had to call the head of airport security who was on the other side of the airport terminal.

I waited 20 minutes until he arrived and he was handed the .22 round of ammunition and looked upon by the other TSA agents as if they were saying "well, you want us to lock him up?"

The man in charge held the round in his hand and looked at my shoes - I was wearing flip-flops. Then he looked at my cargo shorts, then my golf shirt, sunglasses around my neck and finally the Naples Golf Resort visor on my head.

"You can go" he said.

I went on down to Florida minus a cavity search.

Here is another example that really scared my wife and I.... a month ago we were flying back and forth, from Milw to Tampa. My wife had a cannister of mace in her purse (she takes it when jogging and somehow it got tossed in her purse)....

NEITHER the TAMPA or MILWAUKEE security even saw in in the scan! And it was not a small cannister - probably 6 inches high.

Once we returned home, she took it out of her purse so it would not happen again.

But getting Mace through security in 2 locations? It could have been something, theoretically, much worse in the bottle than just Mace.....

Flying is scary stuff...

The changes made in 02 are old. WE need to look at this system every year. And pressure has to be put on airports around the world to get there chit togeather. Or no travel from/to America will be allowed.

Flew back from Cabo Mexico yesterday.

Got to the airport 3 hours early expecting delays. Had 2 hours to kill and ended up watching ESPN's coverage of the Leach firing in the bar. Of course I was wearing my Tech shirt. One guy walked over and bought me a drink telling the bartender that I was having a bad day.:mj07: :mj06:

They hand checked our check in baggage.

Hand checked our carry on.

Xray - did not have to take off my shoes

They wanded and patted down every passenger boarding

Put my lighter and smokes in my hat and ran it through the X-ray machine expecting it to get confiscated. Picked it up on the other side without anyone batting an eye.

My father-in-law had his toe nail clippers confiscated though.

Went through customs in Phoenix. Had to pick up our check in baggage but it was not hand searched. Then went through security with our carry on. Not hand checked.

Lighter made it through in plain sight in the U.S. as well

In Mexico the guy in front of me was of Arabic decent and they did pull him out of line and ran him through the (ignorance forthcoming) bomb check. Where they swab you and put the swab in a machine. He passed the test and boarded no problems.

Pretty much the same as JOSHNAUDI minus the hand check of the bags (Mexico has been doing this before the panty bomber)- after checking in go through security like here, off with the shoes, small liquids and laptops out.

Then a secondary inspection before you got to the gate which was more intensive. Shoes, hats, coats off and physical body and bag search of everyone (granny and babies included).

I had two lighters and was allowed to keep one they took the other. US customs was the same as it's always been, fill out the card for the family and hand it to customs with passports then go pick up checked luggage stop to see if we had to declare anything and hand the guy the card.

We got to the airport way to early (3 hrs.) but that did make it an easy trip. The toughest part was in UK on the secondary screen is the guy asked me "please remove your trainers mate" it took a minute to figure out he meant my shoes

Forgot to add they did have the "flight map" turned off inside the cabin. For those who do not know the "flight map" let's you know how many miles to go, how many miles you have gone, altitude basically all flight details.

They did not make us stay seated without blankets, books etc for the last hour. Since I did not know if they would do that I made my kid take a leak about 65 minutes from landing just in case.

Although they did turn off the flight map on the AVOD screen on each seat it did show how many hours/minutes until your destination. Using that you could figure out where we were.
