Let's try this again.
Here we go.

Last year, my concern was that I wasn't reading enough, so I set a goal of 15 books. I ended up reading 17. Along the way, I realized that I was avoiding books over 350 pages. So, rather than play psychological warfare with myself, I am going to keep logging my completed books but I am not setting a goal this year.

Sidenote: I am seriously considering taking up Spanish. The fact that I couldn't talk to anyone in Miami has been eating away at me. If I go for it, my reading log will be negatively affected.

So is the official one?

Jason, have you discovered McKay's over on Charlotte Pike? They have used books, both hard and paperbacks, music from LPs to the latest CDs, all video games, audio books, etc, anything in media and all used and they do tradeins/buybacks.

I have McKay's on my list to do when I get back in town from Atlanta.

One thing that I discovered recently is how awesome the public library is. More on this later.

One of my main reading goals this year is to read more biographies.

Book 1: Wizard of Menlo Park (Thomas Edison)

Davidson County (Nashville) Public Library rocks!!

I don't think our system is better than many other metro areas, but my life has been changed (not to sound over-stated)!!

I just got my first library card in 20+ years two weeks ago.

I can search all Nashville branches for books, reserve it -- it will be delivered to my local branch and they will email me when it is ready for pick-up.

Add to that convenient fact, when I walked in to pick up my book, I saw a movie section.

So I also picked up The Wrestler and Entourage Season 4. FOR FREE!

I am a changed man!!

So another side-reading goal this year is to visit the library with my boys at least every other week and spend an hour or so with them there.

My paycheck certainly thanks you!!! It is amazing to me how many people are in your shoes and do not have a clue on the resources a public library provides.....all free.....EXCEPT it is YOUR tax dollars that are funding so why not use!!! I have actually had friends, very successful, say who goes to a library and why?

I am going to change everything again for you....when you log into the library home page, look for downloadable books. You can download the books from home right onto your IPod or mp3 device....FOR FREE...and have access to them for 2 or 3 weeks before they expire the rights.

And McKays will blow your mind, take in any old books, music or games that are laying around and get a few bucks for them before you go and spend them in the store!

Nice to read the library love. I am a librarian. Most libraries give taxpayers the best bang for their tax buck. Yet the money is always being threatened because all the thieves in public office steal from every other pool of tax money.

Anyway, Nashville is a place I wouldn't mind living someday. Wouldn't mind a job in that library system!

Reading "The Charlemagne Pursuit" by Steve Berry (his main character is sort of an Indiana Jones like) pretty good so far (but long) through 3/4 of the book.

I am reading "Eating the Dinosaur", by Chuck Klosterman. 61 pages in, this is looking to be the best book of my 2010.

I heard of this dude via the Bill Simmons Podcast (The BS Report). He was a guest that talked about pop culture connections to sports figures and philosophy.

Wow, after an extended absence from this place, finally a topic that hits close to home for me.

I'm gonna cheat a little bit though.............if that's ok............and include the last couple of months of 2009 in my listings. I'm not interested in total book counts, just interested in discussions about books and authors.

Phenom......I also read "The Charlemagne Pursuit" by Steve Berry, and although it seemed to drag a bit at times, the entire package was good.....3.5/5

My 2 favourite authors are Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay. Both are excellent at the hook and twist thriller.

Barclay Books................
"No Time for Goodbye"........my favourite so far........5/5
"Too Close to Home".......pretty good.......4/5
"Fear the Worst"......his newest work I felt was a little weak.............3/5
"Lone Wolf".......one of his earlier pieces.....4/5

Coben Books...............
"The Woods".......a must read for any thriller fan.....4.5/5
"Hold Tight".......a little wordy........3/5
"Tell No One".......very well done........4/5.....now a movie
"No Second Chance".......currently reading this one........have lost count of the fake leads and twists........liking it a lot

Others.....................
"Bonemans Daughters" by Ted Dekker.........good vs evil........3.5/5

"Vengeance Road" by Rick Mofina........If you like em dark and disturbed, you'll like this guy......almost a horror......4/5

"Heat Lightning" by John Sandford........a whodunit that never quite grabbed me......3/5

"The Likeness" by Tana French.........700 pages long.......undercover cop takes the place of a frat student to investigate that very student's murder.........3.5/5

"Target" by Simon Kernick................If Mofina is dark and disturbed, then Kernick is off the scale and in the sewer...............just too many unbelievable plot twists for me..............2/5

Looking forward to many discussions in here..............
