In the age of cell phones with caller Id, call waiting, and cheap ass minutes whats the point of having one:shrug: I guess someone could say internet, but with cable and High Speed wireless cards whats the need. We havent had one for over a year now and I must say I really enjoy not hearing the bastard ring. I guess if you work from home and need a fax or other things for business it makes sense, but otherwise:shrug:

I used to have one until about a month or two ago, was an annoyance because of solicitation calls so I got rid of it. I am thinking about getting one of those internet type phones to call overseas with for my wife. Skype is pretty good for that though, she gets small amounts on prepaid cards now and just says get on Skype, works great and Skype is free with video.

I kinda have to. We don't get cell service up here at 8,500 ft. We connect through our wireless with our cells for service while at home. Without a land line I would be screwed in an emergency if internet was out (which happens frequently due to wind). With 2 kids thats a risk I'm not willing to take.

$20/month:sadwave:

Yep. Whenever I am required to give a phone number, that's the one they get. Ringer is turned off. Check the answering machine once in a while. This way my cell phone is not ringing all the time.

I have one because I need fax but it's so cheap, I'd keep it if I didn't need to fax.

We went about 6 years without a home phone but signed up for MagicJack about 4 months ago because my wife's cell phone doesn't pick up for shit in our house.

With her being a stay-at-home mom, this was necessary.

So far, we are very happy with MagicJack and at its current price, it really is a no-brainer.

About a year ago I realized that, uh, I hadn't received a legitimate call on the home line in the 6 previous months and somehow my bill was like 70/month. Cut that out, obviously.

I have one for the alarm, and I have to have one for emergencies for myself. I do have life alert and have had to use it once.

Haven't had a land line for about 2 years......same thing, even if you are on a no call list, you still get a certain number of what I call "spam calls."

I too was paying close to $100 per month for something I probably really only used a few times a month, so I pulled the plug and it's strickly Cells, and a broadband internet card...... :SIB
