That must be a rare copy you've got. I can't find a picture of the cover anywhere on the internet kurby Could be worth millions

I just rented out Granny Treats minutes ago. :mj07:

If Warner could make em like Granny Treats then I would be rolling in the dough.
Granny Treats cost me $2.85 and has returned $399.56 to date.
The balloons are going to come crashing down on the next renter that puts it over $400. :142smilie

For all the movie buffs that just focus on NEW RELEASE TITLES then your choices are running out as Redbox has given up the lawsuit fight against the studios.

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=26946

Now Netflix and Redbox will not carry any new titles from Warner, Universal, Fox, and Columbia(Netflix only) until after they have been on sale in stores for 28 days.

Redbox was cut off by these studios and they were sending their Redbox fillers to retail stores to buy them and put them in until the retail stores started putting a limit of 5 dvds per customer because Redbox was taking all of the retail inventory.

Now if you want to get any title from those studios in the first 28 days of release then you have 3 choices:
1. Go out and buy it.
2. Go to major chain or independent store. :SIB
3. Or Pirate it.

I know this board has stated it is not a big deal to most, but working in the industry I can tell you people are finding out of this once they see something advertised on tv then Netflix doesn't have it listed as available.

This could do some serious damage to Redbox and their main focus is new titles for $1 a day.

It may not be a big deal in March because the titles BLOW for the month.
Only 3 big box office titles really for the month:
2012(Columbia)
Twilight New Moon
Blind Side(Warner)

Only Twilight New Moon will be offered by both without 28 day wait.

What a crap month as 2012 was garbage.

Blind Side was worth a watch though.

I think you are on an island Kevin. Most of us don't care how soon we get to see a movie on DVD.

It is one crowded island then.

Do you know how many people I see a week that just want to rent what came out either this week or last.
It is at least a 3 to 1 ratio of those customers to those that don't care.
My guess is people who don't care will stick with Netflix. Those that do will leave Netflix.

Either way it is now untapped revenue for me.
By the time 28 days is up then I will have doubled my money on those titles and be selling them for $7.

Am I the only one who wonders how Redbox makes money??
$1 a day rentals with so many other players in the game(online, major chains, independent stores and kiosks).
If you think about it the credit card processing fee can't be low as the companies hate low charge amounts so that is hitting them.
I know a guy who works for Redbox and said he fills 10 machines and makes right at $30K a year.
So that is over $200 a month per machine to an employee.
He said they pay rental space on average between $300-$400 a month to plug in and have box on site.
As of late they were paying full retail for 3 major studios($18+).

So Redbox is $500+ a month in the hole before they rent a movie, pay the CC process fee, or even buy the movies.
They are paying full retail on 3 major studios right now. So lets say they have to buy 8 major titles and get 8 copies of each. That is $1,152.

That means they have to rent 1650+ dvds a month to break even and that doesn't in CC fees. 55 a day average. You are kidding yourself if you think they avg. 55 rentals a day.

This thread has been overposted with a non-issue. Weird.

Tell that to Coinstar stock holders. :scared :142smilie

Trust me this is a huge blow to Redbox. The employee told me the company was devastated when Netflix caved in to the studios because it meant they had to as well.

Also if it is a non-issue then why was Redbox suing the studios to try and prevent this?

It may be a non-issue to certain individuals but to others it is not.

I love how the movie industry didn't learn a freaking thing from the music industry.

I like Redbox. Easy in, easy out - for cheap.

You take that away, and I say fuck you studios. I'll go steal your shit.

What's funny is they still are confused about who has the power.

What percentage of music/CD stores - corporate or independent - exist now compared to 10 years ago?

Same question for video stores over the next 2-10.

Yeah that is the big fear by the studios that piracy is only going to get worse. They are more focused on in store sales more than getting there product out there leagally.
Video stores will not take 2-10 years to disappear as that has already happened and Blockbuster is next.
BB stock is at .35 a share right now. :scared They are $900M in debt. :scared

Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video just filed for a 2nd bankruptcy in 3 years and the writing is now on the wall for all their stores.

I am converting my store as I have just bought another business and will combine the two stores as long as the new releases continue to profit which they should with these Netflix/Redbox dumbass deals. My focus is on the other business though.

Smart move. I was actually trying to be nice and not say that movie stores were dead men walking. :)

No sense in shutting it down while it stays profitable, but I wouldn't count on it.

There really is no reason that I shouldn't be able to download any movie for $5 and have it stored locally.

I would never steal a movie if that was the case.

As a preamble to the post - I'm pretty sure that you have more integrity and character than I do, so I'm not really judging you, but . . .

why do you think that it's ok to steal the movies?

No more integrity or character than the next guy.

Self-justification mainly.

Redbox is a perfectly suitable option for everyone except the studios don't like it, so they shut it down.

If they want to be pricks about it, then let the circle be unbroken.

By and by, Lord, by and by..... (just thought I would add that little end to make me feel better)

My video distributor just told me that the studios plans are to cutoff ALL rental outlets by the summer until after the titles have been on the street for 28 days which includes Blockbuster stores and stores like me.

Of course this will not bother me at all as I have a Best Buy, Walmart, and Target between my home and my work so I can simply pick them up on the way in to work on day of release. I do this already when stores sell them cheaper than I get from distributor.

She said the studios long term goal is to get people to either go out and buy the titles or get them ON DEMAND PPV style.

Studios are just begging people to pirate in my eyes.

Agree 100%.

I don't know why they are taking such a douchebag approach to it.

They're desperate and just trying to squeeze the last people they need to squeeze -- their consumers.

Idiots.

Well the angle is pretty simple.

They think they can make more on the NEW titles in sales and ON DEMAND services as the studios take about 82% profit from On Demand.

Cutting out rental businesses who have been cutting back orders for the last few years to begin with.

I never understood why people BUY movies. I watch it once and that's it
Some movies I'll watch again but maybe just one more time, unless it's on TV.
