Noises problem

I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY V6 WITH 95,000 MILES.
I TOOK IT IN TO GET THE TIMING BELT REPLACED. THE SHOP ADVISED ME TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP, SEALS AND BELTS SINCE IT WAS CONVENIENT. I DID FOR 915.00.
I PICKED IT UP WHEN IT WAS DONE, STARTED IT UP AND HEARD A CONTINUING KNOCKING IN MY ENGINE THAT WAS NEVER THERE BEFORE.
MECHANIC AND OWNER SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE.
FIRST THEY BLAMED IT ON USING PENZOIL OIL THEN BLAMED TOYOTA SAYING THERE'S A RECALL.
I'M GOING TO TOW IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER FOR A ANALYSIS.
SOUNDS TO ME LIKE PISTON OR BEARING PROBLEM VERY POSSIBLE REBUILD TO FIX.

WHAT DID THEY DO? BESIDES SCREW ME?

I HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR FOR OVER 5 YEARS LIKE IT WAS MADE OF GLASS.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR KNOWLEDGEABLE ANSWERS

I don't pretend to know crap about car repair, although my father ran a couple gas stations with full service garage services for many years. I knew enough to know I didn't want to work in a garage as a career, that's about it.

I would be very suspicious (as I think you are) if they blame a national brand that is generally accepted like Pennzoil for your problems (that weren't there before they worked on the car - the noise, I mean), followed by the blaming of the car maker - which until recently had the highest quality and satisfaction ratings of car makers.

While their suggestions might make some sense in replacing things that surely would be ready to go bad (water pump, etc.), they also would be responsible for a new noise/problem.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
No way could be a certain brand of oil. What an excuse! :mj07:

That's all we need to know about that shop...

Did they take it apart to re-inspect it?

Could be lots of things, like dropped washer banging around to timing off to tensioner adjustment to stuff not bolted in tight and loose and knocking around.

document your situtuation as much as you can so you have strong legal recourse if it gets bad.

a very good Toyota specialty shop is;

There is timing belt tensioner and another little part they have to replace with belt. I had 3 belts put in Infinite at 75,000 mile intravels. The 2nd one I told him to skip the tensioners and had same prob you have now. Had to take it back in.

Ask them if they replaced tensioner--should have been automatic.

Toyota did have issues with certain 4 cyl's, you did'nt state engine size? You said you drove it like glass. I've seen it happen, owner babies car, and someone else drives it and puts the hammer down thus an underlying problem comes to surface. It's possible when the mech's that did your repair test drove it, they got on it a bit, thus bringing a problem to the surface. Google Toyota engine issues or something like that. They had sludge problems for a bit, you did'nt say how many miles were on the car? Does'nt matter if you change you oil every week, some designs did'nt displace the heat properly, oil thickened or sludged thus causing issues. This info pertains to bearings, cranks, wristpins, piston slap, often related to knocking noise you mentioned.

Above the Clouds....
Could be a lot of things but if you didn't have the knocking before the work was done it is probably related to the repairs. Like OS said timing will make your engine knock as for the brand of oil that is a cop out.

I don't understand why you told them to replace the water pump if nothing was wrong with it? They said it was convient for them. Convient to take your money. Did you get the old parts?

Anyway take it to your dealer and tell them the work you had done and I'm sure that will pinpoint the problem. GL.

123 automotive 310-5555 have used them for 7 years , they did wrangler before we got the escape. They do the camaro and tahoe. The escape goes to Friendly where we bought it because don't want them working on a hybird. They are at the top of the hill on sunset. You won't beat their price or service. 100% warranty on all work for a year. They don't fix or sale things your car does not need.

they think, can't be for sure without taking valve cover off that a valve nearest the timing belt was bent causing it to knock
somethng about a v6 eng is interference eng or something
anyway I'm in waiting room of Samsones and they ate pulling the valve cover off
they better not charge me!!! Ripoff basterds
