Anyone know much about the Mobile area? Im going to be there for 6 months, any areas outside of Mobile you would recommend to live? Also, I recieved a letter from the General Contractor stating that the Mobile area is the most dangerous in the United States for dangerous animals, as there are 19 different animals (snakes, spiders, fish, etc) that can kill humans. Is this true? When I think of dangerous places in the US for animals that can kill, I think of Alaska or the Everglades.

MC, stay in Daphne which is basically a suburb of Mobile, very nice area with everything you would need.

Not really sure if you are joking about the 19 dangerous animals but there's not 19 animals in North America that can kill you!!!!!!!!

3 snakes (Rattlesnake, Cottonmouth, Copperhead). 2 spiders (Brown Recluse, Black Widow) and yes, you are near the ocean but are you concerned about being eaten by a shark
Also the survival rate if you are bitten by one of the snakes or spiders mentioned above is EXTREMELY high.

NO lions, tigers, or bears :mj07:

Fatback,

Thanks for the info on Daphne! I was just going by the info that the General Contractor sent out about the 19 animals. I have an email into them asking them what the 19 animals are, but have not gotten anything back yet.

Not sure about the dangers of the indiginous species but do know that rain fall in the area rivals that of Seattle.

Mobile is one of the oldest cities and has similarities to that of New Orleans.

I personally would rent a house in the historic district although it may not be condusive to saving money, it would be an enjoyable experience.

Best to you on your stay there.

Ahhhh, the memories of my first snipe hunt will be with me forever. Ten years old, when a fire friends, and camping were the coolest of cools.

Nothing like your first snipe hunt although your next one is always fun too... :142smilie

Thankfully I grew up before the internet could ruin it. Google takes the fun out of a lot of things...

Jack, unfortunately I have been on two many snipe hunts in my life. I think we are showing our age, because the younger members of the audience probably dont know what a snipe hunt is. What movie did they go on a snipe hunt, was it Porkys?
