I had it when I was 18, wasn't a big deal. Three little holes in your belly, no lifting for a while. The only thing that sucked was the first pee, that was horrifying

sounds like an "inguinal" hernia....that`s what i think i have....

what were your symptoms,if you don`t mind my asking?....

thanks

I had a friend with that and he walked around for about 10 years without getting it fixed. He couldn't afford it, so he walked around with a bulge in his pants about the size of a football. He said he would tuck everything back in at night when he went to bed :scared

He also had some serious fowl breath but I don't know if that was related to his injury or not, and I haven't seen him since the repair.

a football?...:D ...nothing like that...last year after pulling up every shrub around the house....and filling a dumpster with all the disgarded landscaping, house junk and dirt,it started,...

hip was in serious pain running into my groin...when i got out of bed in the morning i was incapacitated...went for 2 ct scans...to a gastroenterologist and an orthopedic guy...and a urologist...

no blood in stool or urine...hip looked fine...it eventually subsided....

then,i started digging up dirt and laying sod in some patchy areas left after all the snow....

again, lifting heavy buckets of dirt and sod and lots of digging...

they say it can catch an intestine...that worries me a little...

so heading back out to my g.p....i feel a slight lump, but pretty minor...

it comes and goes...very weird

Inguinal hernia repair can usually be preformed laparoscopically. Application of a mesh may be used to reinforce the area also. Surgery takes about an hour under general anesthesia. Apply ice packs to the surgical site 30 minutes per hour while awake for the next several days to mininmize swelling. Norco or Vicodin maybe prescibed for pain relief. Recovery may take several weeks to months depending on current health and size of the hernia. Hope this helps.

I actually didn't have any, just went for my routine physical and they detected it. It can, however, be very painful from pt's I've seen in the E.R. Also, you can start to have a "bulge" start around the hernia site. You need to have your pcp exam you and go from there.

The surg is very quick and simple, I was back to a semi normal life in I believe less than a week. I just had restrictions on lifting and exertion. I followed my d/c instructions, took my pain meds as needed, never had to ice or anything like that, and was pretty good....after that horrific first urination. That was the worst.

hope this helps, feel free to shoot me more questions

Train with a number of guys who have had the surgery ranging from simple to complex (putting in wire mesh to hold things in). Typically they are back training within a month.

They shot me up with Dilaudid and I was so high I passed back out for 3 hours. It had me down for a good week. Then again my buddy had it last year labrascopic i think and he was good in 3 days.
