1-2 Freddy's comin for you...
1-2 Freddy's comin for you...
It was my seventh birthday. I thought I was basically a teenager. I remember looking down at a Shoney's double fudge sundae. Panning over and looking across the way at the Roebuck Cinema City 8 where Nightmare on Elm Street was playing. (Feb. 5th 1984.)
I had to go! I just had to! I would be the only person in my class that had seen this movie. (Eddie Mourphy's RAW would later follow as well)
My mother and father gave in as I was about to go into extreme, "You said it was my choice for the movie. Followed by, IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!".
"Two adults and one child please... against my better judgement." I still remember my dad saying that. I was all smiles.
Hot Tamales and a small coke in hands, and I was heading to pick the seats. We sat to the left side and I was on the outer edge middle row.
I kept looking at all the teenagers. I was growing up. I was young enough that my parents were still cool to hang out with and I wasn't concerned about what others thought.
My best birthday ever.
.... And then Freddy started walking down the path in the back yard with his finger files SCREECHING on the sides... and the girl got scared... and I got scared for her... and then I started screaming... in the movie theater and I wouldn't stop.
My dad carried me out of there like a fireman running out of a house fire.
I slept at my parent's foot board in a sleeping bag for over 6 months.
I had Freddy Kreuger nightmares until a couple years later.
Hard to believe it's been since 84.
