John Kiriakou, who worked for the CIA from 1990-2004, recently wrote a book titled "The Reluctant Spy". Below is a link to an interview he did on C-Span. This guy wasn't just another field agent at the CIA. He's fluent in Greek and Arabic, worked in both Intelligence and Operations, was involved in the CIA's participation in the 9/11 Response planning and led the CIA team that, in a joint effort with the FBI and the Pakistani Military, captured Abu Zabaydah in Faisalbad, Pakistan in 2002.

It sounds like there's a lot of revealing stuff in the book but one story that he talks about in the interview goes like this... In August of 2002, he went to work for the Associate Deputy Director of the CIA that was (as he quickly found out) in charge of coordinating the CIA's participation in planning for the Iraq War.

The Associate Deputy Director told him that "In March (2003), the U.S. is going to invade Iraq, overthrow Saddam Hussein, open the largest Air Force Base in the world (in Iraq) and move all of our Air assets from Saudi Arabia to Iraq. The reason for doing this is to deprive Osama Bin Laden of the ability to say that we're polluting the land of the two holy mosques (Saudi Arabia)."

When Kiriakou asked the DD (Dpty. Director) "What about Osama Bin Laden... we haven't captured him yet... aren't we taking our eye off the ball in Afghanistan?" The DD replied "It's a done deal. The decision's been made." The DD then told him "The decision was made last March" (a full year before the invasion of Iraq).

The DD went on to tell him... "We're going to the United Nations by the end of the year (2002) and we're going to pretend we want an International Coalition. We know that China, Russia and probably France will oppose us but we're prepared to go it alone."

Kiriakou said that as the March 2003 date got closer and Dick Cheney talked more and more about the supposed Saddam Hussein/Al Qaeda connection, everyone inside the Agency referred to it as "The Big Lie". Everyone inside the Agency knew there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda.

Pretty interesting stuff. Here's the full interview on C-Span:

The sad part is that this guy is not veryifying anything. We knew this now for quite some time.

I may get that book of his and read it.

It just shows that when the US wants something to happen bad enough, it will happen. Setting dates a year before makes it clear they were working backwords step by step.

I knew this is the only response DTB (and a few others here) would have to this.

What's really revealing in just this story alone is that it exposes the entire WMD campaign as a smokescreen for an invasion they'd already been planning for months. It also reveals how they knew in the post 9/11 environment, Congress would rubber-stamp their "War on Terror".

It's pretty sad that in this day and age, in a democracy as large and supposedly well informed as ours is, that we can so easily be convinced that invading another country is in our "national interest" and that it's necessary for "national security". FEAR is a great motivator and no one knows that better than our own government.

Kiriakou tells another story in the interview. It goes like this...

On July 6, 2001, Kiriakou meet with a group of Arab intelligence officers. During this meeting, Cofer Black - Director of the CTC (Counter-Terrorism Center) joined the meeting and told the Arab intelligence officers that our intelligence was indicating that Al Qaeda was planning a big attack, an attack on a scale never seen before. Black said they didn't know when or where the attack was going to occur but he emplored the Arab intelligence officers that if they had any contacts inside Al Qaeda, to do what ever they could to help us disrupt this attack.

After the meeting, Kiriakou questioned Black about what he had told the Arab intelligence officers. Black told him that both he and Richard Clarke at the NSC had been shouting this warning from the rooftops but no one in the Bush Administration would pay any attention to them. Two months later -- 9/11.

This information isn't really new though. It came out in the 9/11 Commission Report and Richard Clarke wrote about it in his book as well. Still, it once again reveals how negligent the Bush Administration was in reacting to intelligence prior to 9/11.

However, Baker said, these CIA outlets were merely part of a larger agenda driven by wealthy interests who have designs on shaping the world to their end. Stressing that the Bush family are merely players in this group of power brokers, Baker said, ?they?re not the guys running the thing. They are just operatives.? He dismissed the notion that it is an organized group, suggesting that it is more of a collection of like-minded, powerful people working together to consolidate their power. ?It?s not this absolute club or anything like that,? Baker explained, ?you?re talking about a mindset.? Ultimately, he expressed concern that this coterie continues to exert its power, ?I think what we?re looking at is a very sensitive and fragile situation that perpetuates to this day.?

He suggested that the Watergate scandal was one historic event that this faction, including George H.W. Bush (who was head of the RNC at the time), played a hand in orchestrating. Baker put forth the idea that Richard Nixon, previously put into power by these elites, had begun to move away from their influence. As such, the Watergate event was developed as a means to drive Nixon out of office in a ?cleaner? fashion than they had eliminated JFK. According to Baker, this explains why the break-in seemed so poorly done, how the story ended up in the press, and why Nixon was so befuddled by what had happened. ?It?s almost like a rolling coup d?etat,? he observed, ?when you?re in these permanent bureaucracies, you don?t have a lot of use for these elected presidents. They?re an annoyance and a problem for you.?

..................................................................

this sounds about right.

I have read for years that the powers really running the country did not include the President.

So the question is, how have they tried to control Obama and have they been successful.

If Sarah Palin " I can see Russia from my house" was President , many things would go far over her head.

I know it sounds amazing when you can't even spell. How do people do it?

If you can wean yourself off that gov tit for a day or so and stop by my office--I'd be glad to show you.

Maybe after a lesson or two you might get enough courage/confidence to crawl out from behind the spellchecker/keyboard and meet a few people and be a real person.

Tell us--how does it feel to go through life :mj08: that someone will find out about you.

Your lesson for today is--at some point in your life you will need to realize that -"be all you can be" isn't anonymous person you create with computer in cyberspace--it's hard to cash those cyber $--live in those cyber homes--provided by those cyber jobs :SIB

DTB,its more than that.I haven't posted in a while so he chooses another victim.Pretty sad.Its like the issues to him don't matter.

It's all about swearing, bashing and downgrading.
Honestly I won't post as much anymore because of him. It's not he has won but more of his immature ways that kill this forum.

I will lurk more than post now because of his act that is getting old.I do enjoy your posts ,good honest truthful reading no matter what political preference.

You really think you are better than most on here. Maybe you should go out in the world and shake hands with some minorities. Then you will realize what a jack ass you are.

Not better than anyone--just am a real person--living in a real world--living with real consequences of real convictions-

Your spelling issues certainly don't bother me--as I said I am well aware of spell checker--but I have no prob with making a few errors and to run spell check to try and impress people is not my cup of tea.

--and shaking hands with minorities
--if it will make you feel better I was only one of 2 palefaces invited to play in memorial day golf event in hopkinsville--so shook plenty of minorities hands.

However I might note that I view things differently than most of you that use racial tags.

I shook hands and fratinized (spl) with them because they were golfers not black or white.:0corn
