OK I know most people have headed out for the golf tournament, but curious if anyone here deals with heating and cooling, our very old air conditioner crapped out this morning and considering it is getting hotter and hotter every day here I will need a new one fast. I have a few quotes, but wanted to see if I am getting ripped off before I choose one of them, so what is the ballpark for a 3 ton unit?

Phenom,

My girlfriend does in-home consultations for a heating/AC company. Here's what she said:

Installed they will run about $4500-$7500 depending on quality/sound/efficiency.

Hope that helps...

Phenom,

I had a 2 ton 16 seer Trane and an 80% AFUE Trane furnace installed for $5,100.00 2 months ago. Minus all the rebates and tax credits it netted out to about $3,800.00.

One thing I forgot to mention... the price you get will largely depend on where you live. The quote I was giving you was for the Seattle area. My gf said that HERE your system would probably be about $7K, but after rebates it would be roughly $4,800. Half of your installation cost will be labor, and labor rates are pretty high here. I'm not sure where you live, but there's a good chance it will be cheaper wherever you are.

Like I said, it depends where you live, Weazie. I'm fortunate to live in a pretty nice area but, as such, a lot of workers here probably get paid better than they would in other areas (and the customer gets to pay the difference! YAY!). Many of the people in this area pay between $10-$12K for AC. :scared

You should move to this area and install furnaces/AC, Weaze. You could have your own entourage, complete with big booty hos! :SIB

Wease the highest quote I got for the A/C-Furnace combo was 7700.00. :scared

that`s a good deal you got...comparable to the deal i got 5 years ago.....

i didn`t get all the perks back then....but the 10 year warranty was nice....

we`re looking at around 100 friday and saturday...with high humidity...

i`m curious about something...my air conditioning unit is positioned so it sits in the blistering sun much of the day...

being anal,i bought a small umbrella and stand to offset the sun beating down on the thing....i couldn`t even touch it...now it stays relatively cool...

i wonder if it makes any damned difference in regard to how hard the thing has to work and if that ridiculous heat directly on the unit would have any residual effects?.....

Yeah, I gotcha. I don't think there's ever been a time I thought, "Is Weasel serious?" That's just insanity asking that question. Although, you MIGHT have had a few serious words about that Winslow chick... :00x32

well, just using the analogy that a car is more likely to overheat in 100 degree weather than in 75 degree weather,i figured dropping the temperature of the unit by shading it might ease the load a little....

i liken it to having an attic fan or light colored shingles on the roof to deflect the heat a bit... they can can drop the temp of your attic and give your a.c. a little help.....

maybe i`m off base... just trying to apply basic logic....

the heat this summer on the east coast is off the charts...last thing i need is an a,c, problem....

global warming is such an inconvenience. Oh wait, sorry, that is just a myth. Just ask Hedgehog and Skullfvck. I am pretty sure a couple of umbrella's around crucial parts of your house will keep you guys safe from the liberal myths. No worries for you guys. What was theme music for the retards? Don't worry, be happy? Yeah, that's it. Don't worry weasie, be happy.

and the record 75 inches of snowfall we had last winter?....

that was attributable to climate change....funny how that works.....when it`s hot it`s global warming...when it`s cold it`s climate change....

nuance...yeah,that`s the ticket...:thumb:

now..about those holes in the ozone layer...:0002

Wease,

The A/C guy said the savings would probably be minimal but that there would be some help as the shade would cause cooler air to be pulled across the compressor. He said a minimum of 4' clearance on top and at least 12" on all sides.

In new orleans, 3 ton 14 seer system (cond and furn) is running roughly 4.5K installed.
