Are you kidding me? I would love to see who can support a family by working at Wal Mart.
.............................................................

This was about 9 years ago.

Had a good friend that worked for Wal Mart as a night manager.

he made about 50 k a year. He had worked there
5 years

Problem is they treated him like slave labor. They would call him in to unload trucks on his off day. He never had holidays off. He as on salary but easily worked 60 hrs a week.

They ended up firing him because he invited a co worker that worked for him for Thanksgiving dinner. She came with her girlfriend. She got mad at him for something and a month after she reported him.

Wal Mart dont play that shit homey.

Worst place in America to work

....and he was a manager. What about everyone else? Those people they hire for 38 hours a week so they don't have to pay them benefits. Ohh yeah and what do they make? $10/hr? Good luck surviving on that.

Thats not even 20K before taxes.

Right behind you
You're right, they should QUIT their JOB at Wal Mart and draw WELFARE.

JMO

Well,,,first of all, Skulnuts, welfare was eliminated under Bill Clinton - that's near 20 years ago. There are NO welfare payments any more.

Did you follow that?

And secondly, Skulturd, Mao*Mart treats it's employees like dogs. It wasn't that way when Sam Walton was alive, but it is now.

Can you comprehend that?

And third, Skulfuk, when you shop at Mao*Mart, you support shipping American jobs to China, and you support dumping those Mao*Mart employees onto the Medicare rolls because Mao*Mart doesn't provide decent health insurance.

Too deep for you, Skulmaggot?

Well I like Wal Mart for these reasons...

They are the only store that carries my dog's food in the big bag and it is close to my house. I also like buying my household items there but never buy groceries.. Keeep that for the local owners.

As far as working there and supporting a family...
Do people who work at competitors such as Target doing the same job make enough to support a family..

Let me tell you what Walmart workers aren't doing-

--drawing unemployment for 2 years
--collecting food stamps
--on medicaid
--looking for subsidized healthcare
--wanting higher taxes

-hanging on internet 24/7 telling everyone about those cyber jobs they have. :)

--and in 2009 Wal-Mart, paid $7.1 billion globally in taxes, and the lion's share of it?$5.9 billion, or 83 percent?went to the US government.

Yep- they paid more than half the people in U.S. paid collectively--of course those of us that paid any- paid more than thecollective 47% that paid nothing--and you'll find those 47% wanting more freebees paid by higher taxes and certainly more redisdtribution--listen to em chirp--they're easy to detect :)

Let me tell you what Walmart workers aren't doing-

--drawing unemployment for 2 years
--collecting food stamps
--on medicaid
--looking for subsidized healthcare
--wanting higher taxes

-hanging on internet 24/7 telling everyone about those cyber jobs they have. :)

--and in 2009 Wal-Mart, paid $7.1 billion globally in taxes, and the lion's share of it?$5.9 billion, or 83 percent?went to the US government.

No not collecting unemployment
Probably on Food Stamps if trying to feed a family
Most likely getting some kind of Government Health Aid if they happen to get sick. Other than that the insurance company is basically stealing a premium from them every month for the meager coverage they get.
I doubt if they want higher taxes. Most likely do not pay taxes or pay very little based on what they make.
As for Walmart paying taxes...well they must be making a lot if they pay that much. Could probably afford better health insurance for their employees.

And third, Skulfuk, when you shop at Mao*Mart, you support shipping American jobs to China, and you support dumping those Mao*Mart employees onto the Medicare rolls because Mao*Mart doesn't provide decent health insurance.

visit forums where workers at these stores hang out at, like this one, and you discover that nearly everyone who has worked at both Target and Walmart say they prefer Walmart.

also a Fortune article mentioned on the Target forum quotes union official that Target is worse overall for workers.

don't forget the previous threads on Walmart at MJ

Apparently everyone but you knows that after all the loopholes in the tax code are accounted for, the effective tax rate for U.S. corporations averages 11%.

Did ya get that DTB?... 11%.

US Welfare System - Help for US CitizensFederally funded and governed US welfare began in the 1930's during the Great Depression. The US government responded to the overwhelming number of families and individuals in need of aid by creating a welfare program that would give assistance to those who had little or no income.

The US welfare system stayed in the hands of the federal government for the next sixty-one years. Many Americans were unhappy with the welfare system, claiming that individuals were abusing the welfare program by not applying for jobs, having more children just to get more aid, and staying unmarried so as to qualify for greater benefits. Welfare system reform became a hot topic in the1990's. Bill Clinton was elected as President with the intention of reforming the federally run US Welfare program. In 1996 the Republican Congress passed a reform law signed by President Clinton that gave the control of the welfare system back to the states.

Eligibility Requirements for State Welfare ProgramEligibility for a Welfare program depends on numerous factors. Eligibility is determined using gross and net income, size of the family, and any crisis situation such as medical emergencies, pregnancy, homelessness or unemployment. A case worker is assigned to those applying for aid. They will gather all the necessary information to determine the amount and type of benefits that an individual is eligible for.

The Federal government provides assistance through TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). TANF is a grant given to each state to run their own welfare program. To help overcome the former problem of unemployment due to reliance on the welfare system, the TANF grant requires that all recipients of welfare aid must find work within two years of receiving aid, including single parents who are required to work at least 30 hours per week opposed to 35 or 55 required by two parent families. Failure to comply with work requirements could result in loss of benefits.

Types of Welfare AvailableThe type and amount of aid available to individuals and dependent children varies from state to state. When the Federal Government gave control back to the states there was no longer one source and one set of requirements. Most states offer basic aid such as health care, food stamps, child care assistance, unemployment, cash aid, and housing assistance.

How to Apply for a Welfare ProgramTo apply for a welfare program one must contact the local Human Service Department located in the government pages of the phone book. It may be listed as Human Services, Family Services or Adult and Family Services. An appointment is made with a case worker. The case worker will give a list of required documents needed at the appointment. Common documents asked for are proof of income, ID, and utility bills or other proof of residency.

Once an appointment is completed a case worker will review all required documents, applications and information provided at the meeting. They will use this information to determine eligibility and the am

I was just intrested to see how a competitor was in comparison.. I am thinking this.. Do people who work at stores such as Wal Mart, K Mart, or Target expect to raise a family with that occupation? A kid in high school could get a job there, For many not all, these occupations are second family incomes or jobs for high shcool/colllege kids. I mean expecting most Wal Mart employees to make a wage to support 2 - 3 kids is pushing it., You don't expect a 7/11 employee to do it why Wal Mart? Just a question.

I would say that you are correct. But, if they are making such huge profits and paying such high taxes and you can bet the execs getting rewarded for it. It seems to me that they could pass some on to their store employees in the way of better health care and pay. I know Wal-Mart has gone into many areas and driven the small guy out of business giving him only one option and that to be working for them.
