Details of 100 million Facebook users published online

MSNBC
July 29, 2010

The personal details of 100 million Facebook users have been collected and published online in a downloadable file, meaning they will now be unable to make their publicly available information private.

However, Facebook downplayed the issue, saying that no private data had been compromised.

The information was posted by Ron Bowes, an online security consultant, on the Internet site Pirate Bay.

Bowes used code to scan the 500 million Facebook profiles for information not hidden by privacy settings. The resulting file, which allows people to perform searches of various different types, has been downloaded by several thousand people.

This means that if any of those on the list decide to change their privacy settings on Facebook, Bowes and those who have the file will still be able to access information that was public when it was compiled.

Just limit what you share on that type of site, and I would think all should be well.

To gain access to facebook without revealing my identity, I used my nickname rather than my given name. Plus, I used an anonymous web-based email account----which is no longer in service from lack of use. they've been asking for an updated email address for over a year, but I can't think of a good reason to give one to them.

What are they gonna do, cut me off:shrug:

There is nothing on my FaceBook page that I could give a shit if the entire world sees or knows it......
As we all know, this is not the case for many (if not most) Facebook users. It was just a matter of time before someone hacked this data a published it, reinforcing my stance that I have no use for FB whatsoever.

I agree. Just a matter of time.

On the course!
There is no privacy anymore.

A guy I work with is a big tech geek, and even though this is off the subject, he was telling me the other day that if you ever get rid of your digital camera or even loan it to a friend......remove your little card thingy that the pics get stored on.

He said even if you have erased the photos, EVERY picture you have ever taken is still likely to be on there, unless you have shot over the thing a boatload of times.

So, the fuck pics, shower pics, blowjob pics, etc, that you take for fun and "get rid of"............

:SIB

Someone knows how to peep them up!

While this is not likely to be true unless you take very little pictures, your friend is pretty close to being on the truth.

A good friend here in Nash is cell phone forensics as a federal agent for the IRS against white collar crime. So finding this type of information is his job.

I would be much more concerned about any pictures you take with a cell phone and especially newer handhelds like iPhones and Droids. Because of the large on-board hard drives, most everything you do is there to stay. Erasing items like texts, photos, etc. does little against someone in the know.
