It's time to review the data and get rid of the antiquated laws. Marijuana and hemp are only illegal because of a gullible public, racism, corrupt politicians and the strong lobby of industrialists in the 1930's.
The scare tactics of the Reefer Madness years have been proven to be false. Cannabis has proven itself as effective in treatment of many ailments, time and again. Hemp can be used in many forms from fabric and paper to fuel.
In my opinion, if it is legal for me to come home from work and have a couple of cocktails, why can't I come home and smoke a joint? When used responsibly, one poses no more danger than the other except for the legal status of the latter and the risk involved in obtaining it. A positive result on an employer drug test could destroy my entire career even if it isn't indicative of my potential liability on the job.
The laws against marijuana were drafted in guile, playing on our ignorance in order to protect us from ourselves. I recognize the guile and am not ignorant. I don't need protection from myself. We live in a nation of reasonably intelligent, educated people. Why do these laws still stand?
