I went to the 2006 PGA on Friday, and it wasn't all that much fun. It was a little wet on the grounds, and that course is no fun for trying to find a spot to view the golfers as is...let alone when you are sliding down dunes. (There were people who broke ankles and legs all week long back then, and I'll guess this year will be more of the same.)
It is a very beautiful place, and I played it about September/October of that year. It was quite tough. We stood at the back of the tee and looked from where the pros played.........It is just awsome to racall where they were hitting their second shots from. I played the blue tees, and was still 50 yards or more short of the landing area these guys were hitting from 100-150 yards back!
I have no desire to play it again, as Wisconsin has over 100 courses that are absolutely wonderful, and I've played a dozen that, to me, are challenging enough and can be had for $40-80 instead of the $450 you need to play the Straits.
(Whe I played it, it was less than $200)
I believe I shot a 103, by the way.
as a 10 handy capper the 106 I shot hurt.
Holy shit! Must be tight as hell with a lot of sand and water. Always heard the course was tough but I've never watched an event there (on TV) to check it out.
