Six years ago Stuart Appleby was penalized twice (a total of four shots) for grounding his club in what he thought were waste bunkers. They made a local rule for the PGA Tournament that ALL sand areas were to be considered bunkers. Once I heard this I didn't feel all that bad for Dustin Johnson. BUT... how many times do you see the gallery and support staff standing the bunkers? I know he said at least three times during his interview with CBS that it never crossed his mind that he was in a bunker. BUT... I go back to my first statement... everyone was told that all sand areas were considered bunkers. End of story.

Ground the Club
To touch the head of the club to the ground behind the ball at address.

WTF does that mean?? Ball at address. Sounds like some stuck up dueches got together to make up these rules..

BP, it's a fairly simple rule.... if your ball is inside a hazard (creek, pond, bunker, etc.) your club MAY NOT touch the ground. Outside of these hazards it's permissible to let your club touch the ground. Rules are rules, not matter how silly they seem. My gripe with this situation is that there were several dozen people standing inside the bunker. I can see where DJ would have had no idea that he was in a bunker, just caught a sandy lie.

So when you are in a hazard and you strike the ball your club cannot hit the ground as you strike it.. It has to hit all ball?? Wow I never knew that and that does sound a bit ridiculous but in theory it is what probably helps seperate the really good golfers from the average ones.. You learn something new everyday. :0008

Your club CAN hit the ground at impact, it just can't rest on the ground ("grounding the club") prior to hitting the ball.

I woudl think that would be harder than hell to determine at times.

Well, in a bunker it's cut and dry... your club can not strike the ground until impact. I know that this past weekend in our Club Championship I hit my ball inside the hazard line of a pond. It was still up and playable, but inside the red hazard line. My club could touch the tall blades of grass, but could not come to rest on the ground. Technicality I know, but I guess if you played as much golf as I do, you would know it's not that had to determine.

By the way BP, my boy Kyle Gibson was just called up to your AAA team in Rochester. Posted a link in another thread here in the General Forum. Hoping he gets a September call up.

My buddies and I were just talking about this kid the other day.. I remember the Twins thought they got this kid as a "steal" because he had some arm trouble but they got him with like the 21st pick and had he not been injured he was a projected top 5.. I would think that if he pitches well in AAA he will get the September call up to come out of the pen.... Starting rotation is going well but you can always use a power arm in a playoff run.. Glad he is on our team., If he makes it up next year, maybe you can up to a game and the Minnesota Madjackers can have a get together..

Oh you can count on it my friend! Very excited for Gibby. He's a great kid with tremendous morals and can really bring the heat. Looking forward to making it up there (hopefully next year!). :00hour
