"the bunker"
baseball leagues in yale heights and southwestern police boys clubs...when we were real little.. and hopping buses around the neighborhood for kicks...

as we got older a playground with a basketball court built in between the backs of two long rows of rowhouses.....the whole weekend revolved around that court...play b`ball all day and then go find the yo-yo that bought our beer for us....if no workie, grab some cough medicine...,

then off to teen center or cyo dances...

Many of the regulars as mentioned but growing up in KY, I played basketball like it was going to disappear. No telling how many hours spent shooting on our goal. An example of how times have changed a little is that my dad set a goal in concrete right off the street in our neighborhood. Pretty sure some nosey-ass would have a problem with that today.

My mom had the rule that when the street lights came on, we had 10 minutes. She was known around the neighborhood for just stepping out the back door and yelling our names if we were late. All the other kids enjoyed hearing that more than me and my sister!!

When we moved to the country, we did a lot of horseback riding and CHORES!

Both parents worked, so in the summer I would ride my bike into town (about 7 miles) to the tennis courts; play all day; then catch a ride home with my mom from work (if I was lucky). A neighbor on nearby farm had two doberman pinschers. FUCK I hated getting past that house. Those fuckers would see me coming, and I guarantee I would have kicked Lance in the teeth as I blew past him!

Taught myself how to juggle, stand on hands, and a bunch of worthless shit due to having nothing to do. Also, watched more Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movies than anyone else my age due to not having cable until my junior year of college. :scared

Good times!

Something kind of weird writing this. The girl that was one of my best friends in my first neighborhood died while drinking and driving when we were 18. A lot of the early neighborhood games are memories with her. RIP Carole

From age 8-12 in the summer it was baseball all day every day.

The only twist to pickup games was drawing a strike zone on the elementary school wall and play with a rubber ball, two guys on each team and we had a game.

We played curb ball too, by bouncing the rubber ball off the street curb and if you hit it just right you could nail a HR way over the other side of the street.

We had underground forts in the woods and we camouflaged it by putting limbs and dirt over top of it :mj07: We'd smoke cigarettes in there too.

Pea guns and pea shooter wars.

Played war in the woods carrying sticks for our rifles :142smilie

Tag.

Just get home as soon as the street lights come on.

We used to steal pumpkins and smash them in the road.

The next day on the bus everyone was laughing their asses off!:mj07:

Did that when I got older :D

How about camping out in the back yard and then going to all the houses in the morning that got dairy delivery and stealing the chocolate milk and donuts :00hour

one of my other favorites was playin wiffleball in the pool....use the plastic golfballs and normal bat..anything outta the pool was automatic out or else there woulda been homeruns everytime....

also cant remember how many bikes i went through due too all the abuse they took from the constant usage....i think i road enough miles too cover the us on my bike...

i can remember when my nieghbor who was also best friend and myself dug holes all over our yard trying too catch rabbits in the back field..we would cover the holes with straw hoping they would walk over it.....haha never worked but man its a good way too get your parents upset really quickly...
