they allowed more passing yards than Michigan?

1999- tenn over FSU
2000-FSU over v-tech
2001- OU over FSU
2002- Miami over Nebraska
2003-OSU over Miami
2004-LSU over OU
2005-USC over OU
2006-TX over USC
2007-FLA over OSU
2008-LSU over OU
2009-FLA over OU
2010-ALA over TEX

I can't recall any of those teams having a pass defense in the 100s

I don't think its even a debate that 4 of the best WRs in the country play in the SEC. Lots of stout passing games in the "gring it out" conference...

If Oregon Defense faced anyone as good as AJ Green, Childs, Alshon or Julio, there may be a case for their defense being as good as Auburns. But I don't see any 1st round offensive draft picks on Oregon St, washington, wsu, ucla or cal.

How about the worse "first half" defence in the history of the BCS? Did'nt they tighten up in most of those games. Like Alabama didn't even score in second half did they?

Defending the pass isnt as much about the WRs but the QBs and if you want to make that comparison, aside from Mallet, Luck, Locker, Foles and Barkley are all better than the next best SEC QB that Auburn had to face...

but what do i know...we'll see on Monday. I say Ducks by 8

I would agree about the talent of Green and Jones, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, just because the talent is there, doesn't mean that they maximize that talent. You still have to have a QB throw the ball to the WR, and an offense that gets them the ball. Other than Ark. and Auburn, the SEC offenses have what seems to be two WR routes, a 10 yard out and a post.

So Cal
I think that the Oregon Offense is incredible.....The game pace is almost unbelievable....if u went to the fridge for a beer chances are u missed about 4-5 plays....the stamina and endurance is amazing.....This has got to be the best Off this Aub Def has played....

I think the Auburn Defense will get shredded and diced by the Ducks.....:0corn

I love Oregon in a blow out......Ducks by 10+:toast:

BTW yes i'm a PAC10 guy but i swear this not a bias pick at all.....I just feel like Oregon is the better team while Auburn may have the best player in C.Newton....

Oregons whole game is getting outside on run plays.

Auburn has had over a month of rest, so best of luck to Oregon in trying to get to the edge vrs. a fully rested and fast SEC defense.

If you want to pinpoint Auburns weakness, its the secondary, but Darron Thomas is hardly a threat to consistently complete long passes down field.

If theres anything to worry about, I'd be worrying about Oregons minuscule defensive line, who is going to be manhandled by Auburns front.

And enough with the pace already. That song and dance is getting old. Especially since Auburn can and does at times play just as fast.

Oregon peaked early in the season and has struggled against mediocre Pac 10 defenses.

Auburn has run through a gauntlet and now has had all this time to rest?

Auburn in a rout.

I disagree 100%

Auburn #'s
TDs Yds PassYds RushYds
Offense 70 497.7 210.5 287.2
Defense 39 362.2 250.5 111.7

Oregon #'s
TDs Yds PassYds RushYds
Offense 71 537.5 233.7 303.8
Defense 24 331.6 214.0 117.6

On paper Oregon has the better Defense and Offense.....
and as far as i'm concerned the S.E.C gets way too much respect....the S.E.C is 4-5 in its Bowl games this season...Not really the #'s you'd expect from the "mighty S.E.C" :mj07:
i mean UCF and Pitt both won vs the SEC...How did that this happen to the S.E.C:mj07: On Monday the world will see what i'm talking about:toast:

Big factor for me is the Coaching edge Oregon has.
I'll take Kelly over Chizik anyday and twice on saturdays...

On paper sure. Auburn was going against prolific offenses all season.

Not the likes of Cal (90), UCLA (100), Washington State (92), Washington (76), Oregon State (94), New Mexico (120)

And your 4-5 SEC bowl record argument is hilarious. What other 12 team conference sent 10 teams to bowl games?

And you want to talk about coaching?

Auburn has hands down, without argument, THE BEST offensive coordinator in football anywhere. Period.

So. Cal
as a pac-10 guy who's not a fan of the chest pounding the sec does since they're not really THAT much better and would like to see ore win

i think aub rolls

the size advantage on both lines is a HUGE difference....throw in a 6'6 150lb qb who will be as big or bigger and faster than almost the entire ore d and i have no idea how ore slows aub down

on the other side.....i expect ore to score, but not like they usually do becasue aub d-line will also have a BIG advantage and have some success.....and as stated, thomas is not the type of qb to take adv or the aub weakness, passing game vs the secondary.

then again, come kick off i might just say fuk the sec and hammer ore!

:)

The S.E.C is a awesome defensive conference but I don't think offensively they are all that prolific....I'm on my blackberry so its not possible for me to get the #'s
But I don't think its a whole lot better then what Oregon has went up against....
U mentioned that "Auburn had to run thru a Gauntlet"
AU had 4 road games this season @ miss st, Kentucky, mississippi, and They closed the season vs Bama
Which is in state.. Honestly that was a incredible game and great win by AU...
Oregon played @ Tennessee, Arizona St, washington state,
USC, CAL, and Oregon State (obviously in state)...

For the Bowl stuff,
Have u looked at some of the ooc games on the schedule for the S.E.C...A big giant plate full of Cupcakes...If u can win 3 games in conference play, your Bowl eligible ....Kentucky only needed to go 2-6 in S.E.C. To make a Bowl....Georgia (3-5 S.E.C) , Tennessee (3-5 S.E.C), all 3 of these teams finished the season with a losing record at 6-7 so it's not a impressing feat for me that 10 teams went bowling

Coaching point
Malzahn is a great coordinator
Although he's not better then HC C.Kelly who also has been the OC @ Oregon since 07 and has had the best offense in the PAC10 each of those seasons since joining the Conference

10 of 12 in bowls, and one of them not was the best player in the PAC-10 last year - Masoli. He got pounded over and over and over.

This game is not about conferences.

Oregon has to keep it close in the first half. They usually don't explode until the second. The difference is, Auburn's offense is much different than the offenses they have played this year.

The teams are almost mirror images of each other. IF, and yes IF, Darron Thomas can hit some passes early downfield, I think Oregon has a great chance.

There is just something about this Auburn team that makes it hard to bet against them.

Auburn also played a championship game vs a good South Carolina team. Something the PAC-10 knows nothing about.

It's been said before in this thread but I think the game will be won in the trenches and Auburn should be able to dominate on both sides. Auburn has played a much tougher schedule and it will show tomorrow night.
