What is the reason behind sports fan emotions?
I'm probably "quoting" an alien's runaway teenager who, while visiting our planet, got mixed up with some tout who promised him or her or X that only by following touty's plays could our world then become his or hers or whatevas.
Emotions too big a subject. Then gotta tie sports fandom in with all of its sociological and personal psychological foibles that muddies those waters.
Sports is good for society in the same way that people argue that religion is good for society, in the sense of community and togetherness it can inspire. It takes a complex mixture of physical art and skill. Athletic prowess is an artform and every one of us have experienced some degree of it; in play during childhood, further activity during adolescents where peer associations get rockin' and play gets more intricate. Not doing it justice. Camaraderie. Healthy competition.
I've thought about this value of sports angle--sorta my limited bs above--quite a bit as I have a number of people close to me who aren't into sports, including a couple with downright disdain for same. Taught me a lot about this "to each their own" bullshit. Works in most cases but please don't take a dump on my lawn.

Thank Hendrix for impermanence.
Apparently, I need some fresh air.
