That’s interesting. I believe you. It sounds like your buddy has a good thing going. It most likely took some serious time and effort to build up his clientele. However, it surprises me that he is able to compete with respected offshore books. Those popular offshore books provide easy to navigate websites, higher limits, respectable cash back and decent bonuses to serious players. Most importantly, those books regularly pay their customers substantial sums of money at the players request within an hour to two max via crypto currency. No waiting until Monday or Tuesday to meet up with bookies and settle up every week. Those books also request enough cash to cover each wager upfront in your account similar to a real Vegas sportsbook takes money upfront. That helps keep players from racking up debts that they can’t afford. And again, no risk of the authorities showing up to a bookies’s home one day and turning a 6-figure business into an absolute nightmare. Trust me I’m not saying there is anything wrong with what your buddy is doing and I’m sure he’s a great guy and friend. But it’s difficult for me to understand why anyone would use a local bookie these days, let alone choose to put in the effort to make money that way. There are much easier ways to lower your tax bill. Thanks for sharing regardless because it is an interesting subject and I understand that it happens all over this country and is a part of our collective society and culture.
Tragic. I had not heard nor seen anything about this previously.
one of the local bookies owned a barber shop and a bar. He had a huge safe in the basement of the bar and somebody tried to get it out of there. He used the barber shop as a front. Where the enevelopes were picked up and dropped off. Well he used to stuff the envelopes in a magazine in his drawer and I guess he went to bathroom and came back and magazine was gone.Tragic. I had not heard nor seen anything about this previously. Unfortunately it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, people become absolutely crazy over money. Yet another worry bookie’s running their own shop must deal with every day. Any person who knows what is going on and what days the bookies collect every week can ambush the money man or worse. That stuff even happens in this country more often than one would think. We just don’t normally hear about it because many illegal bookies today are affiliated with mafia. They prefer to handle those unfortunate issues their own way without law enforcement, if possible. It’s a very rough and savage world out there. Truly. The majority of us have been fortunate enough to avoid witnessing and/or experiencing that part of our society firsthand.
I hit 5 Dimes for 30 grand or so one baseball season and I was getting 5 K a week for the first 3 weeks when it came time to payout. Then the slow paying came. They couldn't pay out on the days they claimed payouts were. Tony would never talk to me on the phone personally but they said Tony said this or Tony said that. Finally I told them I wasn't going to bet unless I got another payout and then Magically it happened immediately. Never beat them at any other sport.
