It's the rematch we've all been waiting for!
I'm running late. It's already 1:00. Gonna have to get through this quickly.
App St lost 5 of their last 6, finished 2-6 in the Sun Belt, and they got into a bowl game when a bunch of other teams said "nah." Not only did they only win 5 games, but one of them was against Lindenwood. 20-13. Impressive.
Alrighty, the line opened at 2.5 and is now 10. Maybe an opt-out or two? That will not help this process.
Holy shit, the App St QB situation is so fucked up that ESPN is in disarray. Check this shit out.
That's right... Mitch Trubisky threw for over 2,000 yards for App St this year. Amazing! Too bad he's opted out of the bowl game. They could use him. Hell, they might be better off with Tarik Cohen (whatever happened to THAT guy?) playing QB.
Ok, they are down to true freshman Gillon, who threw 32 passes this year and took 4 sacks while averaging 3.5 yards/att, or veteran backup Wiles. Wiles started at Southern Miss in 2023 and was ok at best. 54%, 11 TD, 7 INTs, 6.4/att.
There is a quote from coach Loggains, saying people may be surprised by who plays in this game. We shall see. Speaking of coach Loggains, this is his first year at App St. His first name is Dowell. Somehow this guy was an OC for 4 different NFL teams in his 30's. He left his last NFL job (OC/QB Coach with... the Jets) to work at Arkansas. As a TE coach. Wow. Who would have thought a guy named after one of these wouldn't be a great coach.
Well, shit, it's now 1:20 and I haven't gotten very far.
Loggains did say guys in the portal would be allowed to play. Probably because he's desperate for bodies.
Ga. So. may be a little thin at RB. Arnold, who was hurt 11/22 against ODU and missed the finale, may be back. He's listed at questionable. He averaged 6.6 yards/carry. The next two guys on the depth chart are out, leaving a couple guys who averaged around 3.5 yards/carry. They may have to rely on QB French even more than usual. He threw for 352 yards the first matchup.
Ok, it's after 1:30 and I gotta wrap this up. The smart thing to do? Don't bet this mess. I don't recall any of us claiming to be smart though. I have to go with Ga So, just because of the first year coach angle. The total is interesting though. The first matchup, the total was 61.5. Final score was 25-23. It was adjusted down a little for this game, at 59.5. And despite the opt-outs, the total as only dropped to 57.5. Plus it's windy in Birmingham. Mid teens, with gusts in the 30s. Both kickers are perfect this year under 40 yards, but it gets dicey after that. They're a combined 10-for-18 from 40+. Combined with that wind... don't expect any long FGs. Anyway, you'd think that total would have dropped more. Which, of course, makes me want to bet the over. As you can see, totals have been killing me in bowl games.
Right after I typed that, I saw the total just ticked back up to 58.5. What the actual fuck?
Parlay GaSo -6.5/Over 53.5 2 to win 2.4
