Go Habs Go!!
Glad to be back on the forum after a well-deserved break! It felt good to disconnect a little bit but I have to say that I missed hockey a little bit! It took me a few peiods to get in the groove yesterday, the reason why I did not pick anything last night.

I played this last night:

PHOENIX (+115)
The Kings are really suffering and Coyotes are making a run for the playoffs. Bri?re has been a spark for Phoenix in the last 2 weeks and Abid has been filling up weel since Amonte's injury. I'm always scared of All-Star break hangover but I don't think the Coyotes are the kind of team to not take things seriously with Bob Francis behind the bench. There is another write-up in ddubs' thread for those interested.

I'm still looking at more games and will be back for more in teh afternoon. So, everyone, put on your thinking caps :shade: and let's pick some winners! :D

SAN JOSE -.5 (-150)
Two teams really heading in the opposite direction. Even though the Sharks have disappointed this year, they are still a great team and will definitely make the playoffs. I truly believe they will get hot in the last stretch. A win tonight against a hungry Canes team should serve as a good start for a nice streak. They have won 3 of last 4. The Hurricanes have given up for this season. Jim Rutherford is already talking about trading his core players before the trading deadline. It doesn't usually add up to a very healthy All-Star break. They are in for a long and painful season finale... Maybe their goalies will get hot along the way and maybe Francis will score a few late goals, which might provide a few wins and ties but not more than a few.

Great write-ups, as usual. You and trademaster have me thinking about the Josers again. The difference between a contender and a pretender is winning home games against struggling teams like the Canes. They definitely need to nail this one to start a win streak.

Good luck tonite, cyra:D

Thanks ddubs... just sharing my views! I think it's important to know where people are coming from when they share an opinion.

About San Jose, I really feel that they will be doing well for the rest of the season and we will get a "first impression" tonight.

WASHINGTON (+100)
The Caps will have a big test tonight to show if they are able to compete with premier teams. They have been hot of late and should help them in their quest to show other teams that they should be scred when they face them. They beat the Lightning 5-1 last night, Grahame did not have a very good start. Kolzig was hot in the 3rd to keep it 5-1. I like it when a goalie shows his stuff to keep a game one-sided. The Devils played the Sabres last night and won 4-1. The good thing for them was that they did it playign Schwab who has fared well as a backup. Now they have Brodeur who is fresh for tonight's big matchup. I feel a little mini-slump coming for the Devils.

DALLAS OVER 3 GOALS (-130)
The Blues are missing their top player in Doug Weight. The Blues also have a goaltender called Brent Johnson, which I don't believe can become a great goaltender. I was going to take the Over in the game until I started thinking too much of Marty Turco, who could pull out a great game, and usually does when his team plays well in front of him. Modano is looking for his 600th assist tonight where he would become the 2nd American-born player to register that feat (Jeremy Roenick being the other). I believe it will be an action-packed game. Hope for all the people that took the Over on the game that Scott Mellanby ends up scoring 2 goals!

DALLAS -.5 (-150)
I really think that Doug Weight is a very big piece to replace out in the Blues lineup. The Blues did great despite having injuries to key members this season. But the main reason why they won games is because they had great support players that picked up the slack. One of them is out tonight in Peter Cajanek. Another is slumping in Eric Boguniecki. Another question mark in my mind is Brent Johnson. He will always be a question mark in my mind until he proves me that he can pick up a team on his shoulders and win a game for them. He has not done that very much during his tenure in St-Louis. Dallas Start are the Dallas Stars. They are strong, offensive, defensive and Turco is a great fit. They are back from the All-Star break to prepare for the playoffs. If the offense doesn't get it done, Turco is there to back it up. At home they are almost unbeatable. I think the price is pretty decent if you compare their lineup to the Blues lineup tonight!
