well, i still had a little champagne left, so i'm taking checkmate's suggestion and drinking a couple more mimosas.

penn st (ML) 1 unit to win 2.1. obviously this is not a strong play for me. but georgia's offense struggled most of the year. and i think they are being coached by a couple 5th year seniors for the bowl game. and psu's offense didn't struggle this year. "struggle" would imply they put up a fight. psu's offense offered no resistance. they rolled over and played dead. but as solid as georgia's defense was, they don't put pressure on the qb. they rank 90th in the country with 21 sacks in 12 games (psu led the country with 44 sacks in 12 games). if you don't pressure hackenberg, he might actually get comfortable and not make a bunch of dumb throws.

anyway, the psu defense is solid and i think they'll be fired up for this game. they'll keep this game close and psu should have a chance to win in the 4th quarter.

k st (ML) 1 unit to win 3.9. no, i don't love the wildcats. but i think they're worth a shot here. after blowing halftime leads in back-to-back weeks against ok st and tcu (after winning 48 straight games when they had a halftime lead), k st went into a funk, losing their next 4. but they rebounded to win their last 3 against the dregs of the big 12. if they can build on that, and if the rumors are true that coach snyder is retiring and the wildcats use that for motivation, AND if the hogs of the first 4 weeks of the season show up... k st can pull off the shocker. yeah, that's a lot of ifs. but i'm getting 4-1.

oregon (-7) 2 units. this isn't even about boykin's suspension. in fact, i hate betting against backup qbs in their first start (i'm assuming bram kohlhausen is starting). but this is all about a tcu defense that never figured it out this year. and an oregon offense that did figure it out after the utah game. tcu was 79th in the country, allowing 182 rushing yards/game. and that was in the pass-happy big 12. here comes oregon, 5th in the country, averaging 288 yards/game. that will be the difference in this game.

arizona st (ML) 3 units to win 3.3. this is a fairly weak 3-unit play for me, primarily because of todd graham. and also because it's kinda sorta a home game for the sun devils. but i love betting against dana holgorsen. what a whiny bitch. i also love betting against qbs named skyler. howard has completed less than half of his passes in 4 of his last 7 games. that's impressive in the defensively-challenged big 12. and howard is going to be under pressure today, as wvu is 92nd in the country, allowing 30 sacks in 12 games and arizona st tied psu for the most sacks per game in the country.

wvu was only 2-5 against teams that played in a bowl game, with the 2 wins against georgia southern and texas tech.

arizona st was a little better with 3 more games against bowl teams, going 4-6. i think wins over washington, arizona, and at ucla are more impressive than anything wvu has done this year.

leaning strongly to the under, too. can't quite pull the trigger.

what i don't understand is.... at what point, do you realize you HAVE to put the qb under center? i don't care if you only have 2 plays in the playbook with the qb under center. you gotta do it.

and the way they just abandoned the run for stretches of the 2nd half was... well, i'm not even sure of the word i'm looking for.

really, a truly fitting conclusion to this college football season for me. no fucking way az st wins now.
