(1) Cleveland Cavaliers (2-0) at (4) Atlanta Hawks (0-2), 8 p.m.

The Atlanta Hawks have spent the first two games of their Eastern Conference semifinals series playing roadkill to the 18-wheeler that is the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Things don't figure to change all that much when the scene shifts to Atlanta tonight for Game 3.

The Cavs took a commanding 2-0 series lead on Thursday when LeBron James revved into MVP form again, pouring in 27 points before resting in the fourth quarter, as Cleveland continued to roll in the postseason with a 105-85 blowout of the injury-riddled Hawks.

The top-seeded Cavaliers, who swept Detroit in the first round, have won each game in the playoffs by at least 11 points. The average margin of victory for the six contests stands at 18.

"We're just a really good team," said James. "We're not overconfident, but we believe in our game plan, we believe in each other as individuals and we believe in each other as a team. We just go out and play hard."

After winning, 99-72, in the opener on Tuesday, the Cavs surged to a 59-35 lead at the half of Game 2 with James finishing the second quarter with a show-stopping shot from near half-court.

"It was demoralizing a lot just because of where I shot the ball from," said James. "We carried that momentum into the second half."

Wally Szczerbiak added 17 points, Mo Williams 15 and Delonte West 14 for the Cavs, who led by as many as 36 before coasting to the victory. West was poked in the right eye midway through the third quarter and didn't return but was evaluated Friday morning and listed as probable for Game 3.

Meanwhile. already without forwards Al Horford and Marvin Williams due to injuries, the Hawks lost star guard Joe Johnson with a severely sprained right ankle in the third quarter.

Johnson, who is averaging 15.7 points per game in the playoffs, went up for a shot with nearly 3 1/2 minutes left in the third. While being defended by James, Johnson landed awkwardly on his ankle, went to the locker room and later was put in a wheelchair to get x-rays, which were negative.

Horford, dealing with an ankle injury, played over 25 minutes in the series opener on Tuesday, but sat out Game 2. Williams was sidelined with a sprained right wrist.

Johnson missed practice Friday and will be a game-time decision tonight. Horford and Williams were both able to practice and will also be game-time decisions.

"I just have to get our main group, hopefully back out on the floor Saturday and see what we're made of," said Hawks coach Mike Woodson. "When you're missing pieces it's tough, but again I'm not one to complain. I've got to push the guys who are in uniform and try to get them to play hard, and hopefully something will swing our way."

Cavs coach Mike Brown isn't exactly heartbroken over Woodson's injury woes.

"Mike Woodson's a nice guy. Maybe sometime we'll see each other in the summertime and we may have a bite to eat, but he has to take care of his own problems," said a smiling Brown.

Maurice Evans had 16 points to lead the Hawks on Thursday, who shot a woeful 34.9 percent from the field.

Atlanta is clinging to the hope its home court can turn things around in the series. The Cavaliers went 39-2 as the host during the regular season and are now 43-2 at the "Q" this year, including the playoffs. On the road, Brown's team has been mere mortals, compiling a 29-14 record as the visitor, including a pair of wins in Auburn Hills during the quarterfinals.

The Cavs also took the season series with Atlanta, winning three out of four games with the lone loss coming at Philips Arena, a 97-92 setback in December.

The two teams have never met in the playoffs before.

Game 4 of the best-of-seven series will be in Atlanta on Monday.

Not to sound like an editorial piece but who really believes that Atlanta can even keep just one-game close in this best of seven? As expected, the Cavaliers proceeded to steam roll over the Hawks on Thursday, 105-85. Even after LeBron James logged in a diminished 31-plus minutes of play (a little over 34 minutes in Game 1 after averaging 37 minutes during the season), Cleveland was still able to keep a 20-point cushion at the end of the contest.

That brings us to Game 3, the matter at hand. Since we?re hard pressed not to turn our focus away from the dominant team in this matchup, let?s take a peak at what a struggling Atlanta squad is in store for. Most books have set head coach Mike Woodson?s team as an eight-point home favorite with a total set at 180.

The Hawks may have escaped the Miami series, shooting an average 42.2 percent from the field but hitting only 38.8 percent of their field goals in this series has led to scoring 78.5 PPG. Returning back home for which it went 3-1 SU and ATS versus the Heat, are we looking at a vague probability for the Hawks to cover as eight-point underdogs?

The good news, while not convincing, has Atlanta at 3-2 ATS in its last five against the Cavs. The three ATS wins came as eight and four point underdogs (two home games and one road). The key to these wins at the window was a 44.1 percent success rate shooting from the floor and 33.8 percent from beyond the arc (with the exception of one contest that had Atlanta hitting only 28.6 percent from three land).

Another common number floating around these three ATS head-to-head wins was the Hawks outscoring the Cavaliers in two of the contests in the second half. And what?s been the recurring theme in this current series? Atlanta getting blown out of the water in the second half of Game 1, 50-28 while just squeaking out the edge in Game 2, 50-46 (lucky enough in support of the ?over? 181.5). But with Cleveland getting the best of Atlanta, outscoring the squad 59-35 in the first half, the second half result wasn?t pivotal in terms of covering the spread.

It?s going to take a hope and a dream for the Hawks to keep this one close. Maybe looking at a half of solid play is realistic but to get four quarters of positive momentum against a Cavs team that?s playing well above the rim, it might be asking too much at this point.

The favorite is 18-8 ATS in the last 26 head-to-head meetings and Cleveland is a smoking 11-1 ATS in its last 12 overall games.

ATLANTA (AP) - If this was a heavyweight fight, the referee might have already stepped in to stop it.

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are on a record roll and throwing nothing but haymakers. The Atlanta Hawks are all banged up and on the ropes.

Of course, it takes four wins to advance in the NBA playoffs, so the Cavaliers' work is only half done. But it's hard to see any way the team with the league's MVP and best record of anyone during the regular season could possibly let this one slip away, not after those first two games in Cleveland.

The Cavs took Game 1 by 27 points. Game 2 was a 20-point blowout (and not really that close).

Compounding Atlanta's problems: Three starters - leading scorer Joe Johnson, center Al Horford and forward Marvin Williams - are hurting. Horford (sprained ankle) and Williams (sprained wrist) sat out Game 2, while Johnson twisted his right ankle after the contest already had gotten out of hand and left the arena in a walking boot.

They're all questionable for Game 3 Saturday night. Even if they play, none will be at full strength.

``It's a little frustrating not to have a full deck,' Hawks coach Mike Woodson said after practice Friday. ``No one wants to go through a playoff series all beat up. We've got some key guys on the sideline.'

Horford and Williams took part in the off-day practice at Philips Arena, though it really was more of a walkthrough. Johnson stayed in the back, getting treatment.

``Injuries happen. They're part of the game,' said Zaza Pachulia, who would start at center if Horford can't go. ``Unfortunately, it's happened to us in the playoffs. That's not a good time. But we're still going to have five guys on the court.'

Don't expect any sympathy from the Cavaliers, who have won all six of their playoff games by double figures - matching the record streak set by the 2004 Indiana Pacers - and also became just the second team to win three straight postseason games by at least 20 points. The 1986 Los Angeles Lakers, led by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, were the first.

``I've seen a lot of teams come up with some big-time efforts when starters are out,' Wally Szczerbiak said. ``Look at the playoffs this year. Dwight Howard was out and the Magic won Game 6 on the road in Philly to close out that series. So we've got to be ready for their guys to step up. There are professional basketball players in this league who are hungry and ready to play. We have to go out and do our jobs and continue to play the way we have, no matter who is out there for them.'

The Hawks can look back to last year's playoffs in their search for inspiration.

Atlanta was blown out in its first two games of its opening-round series against Boston, and just about everyone predicted the eventual champion Celtics would win in a sweep.

Instead, the Hawks won all three on their home court, forcing an improbable seventh game in Boston. OK, so they were routed in the decisive contest, but Atlanta would surely take a winner-take-all game in Cleveland if it was offered.

``It's a tough task, but anything is possible,' Atlanta forward Josh Smith said. ``If we step up, we can make a series out of this.'

Pachulia was more realistic when someone brought up the Celtics-Hawks series.

``It kind of reminds me of last year,' he said. ``But this is different, because we didn't have all the injuries last year. Three guys are injured. That's kind of tough, especially when they are guys who started all year.'

Woodson spent the day focusing on defense. The Cavaliers shot 50 percent from the field and averaged 102 points in the first two games, led by James at 30.5.

``They have a great player and a great supporting cast, but we're not playing defense nowhere near as good as we did during the season and during the Miami series,' the Atlanta coach said, referring to the opening round. ``There were too many gaps, too many holes. We tried to simplify things today. We have been good at protecting the paint. That's something they're doing right now, but we're not. We gave up something like 20 layups in Game 2. And 102 points a game? That's not going to cut it.'

The Cavaliers' main concern is Delonte West, who got poked in the right eye in Game 2. He didn't practice before the team left for Atlanta, but coach Mike Brown expects him to start Saturday.

There was a lingering buzz in Cleveland about James' step-back, 36-foot jumper at the halftime horn to give the Cavaliers a 24-point lead.

``I still don't know how you can shoot a jump shot from that far out,' Brown said. ``That's amazing to me. And not only a jump shot, but a step-back jump shot, which is even harder.

``My son plays NBA Live,' the coach added, ``and that's the only time I've seen that happen.'

LeBron James is truly performing at a royal level, averaging just over 31 points per contest to go along with 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists. It?s a level that has enabled his Cleveland Cavaliers to win its first six games in this year's playoffs by a sizeable margin.

Not since the Indiana Pacers in 2004 has an NBA team won its first six by 10 points or more and Cleveland now has the chance to break the current record Saturday night as the series shifts to Atlanta.

It's too bad Cleveland needs to go through the motions with Atlanta to close out this second round contest. After embarrassing Detroit in Round 1, it'd be nice to throw King James some competition.

Insult to injury

If the Atlanta Hawks have any hope of competing with the Cavs, they'll need to be at full strength. Unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely that the Hawks will soar into battle Saturday night with the availability of every star on the table.

Both Al Horford and Marvin Williams missed Game 2 at the ?Q? with injuries, and the Hawks? leading scorer, Joe Johnson, rolled an ankle in Thursday night's third quarter. Johnson failed to return.

Despite the lack of personnel, Atlanta still had a rough night from the field, shooting just 35 percent.

Anniversary of ?the shot?

Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena marked the 20th anniversary of Michael Jordan's 1989 series winning shot over Cleveland's Craig Ehlo. ?The Shot? is still one of the most recognizable plays in NBA history, let alone the beginning of the Cavs' streak of postseason bad luck.

Twenty years to the day, King James stunned Cleveland with another shot, one that went the Cavs' way this time around. As if a 21-point lead wasn't enough, James pulled up from 36-feet with 5.4 seconds remaining in the first half and sank an unbelievable jumper over Hawks guard, Mario West.

James elevated, sank the shot and stood proud as 20,562 fans jumped to their feet in amazement. "I can say, yes, it was demoralizing because of where I shot the ball," James said. "We carried that momentum into the second half." Now, Cleveland will be carrying that memory for another 20 years of what's possibly turning a streak of luck on Lake Erie.

Don?t fake the funk

Let's make this easy: Take Cleveland. It's that simple.

The Cavs are 7.5-point favorites for Game 3 and are 9-0 ATS (against the spread) after coming off of a win against the odds. Hell, Cleveland is 11-1 against the spread in its last 12 overall.

The Hawks are 8-17 against the number in their last 25 games following a loss of more than 10 points.

NBA Odds - Ailing Hawks In Trouble Against Rampant Cavs

NBA Odds - Ailing Hawks In Trouble Against Rampant Cavs

NBA Odds - Ailing Hawks In Trouble Against Rampant Cavs

NBA odds are backing Cleveland to take a 3-0 lead in their second-round series with Atlanta, who have a ton of injury concerns to worry about, on top of playing the hottest team in the league right now. Sportsbook players should keep tabs on the status of Atlanta's injured players before making their online betting pick, but it's going to be a tough trek for the wounded Hawks.

Cavaliers vs Hawks odds - Saturday, May 9, 8:00 PM ET

The Cavaliers had five players in double figures in a 105-85 rout in Game 2 that was over by halftime, and of course, LeBron James paced the attack with 27 points. Wally Szczerbiak shot 7-of-9 from the floor for 17 points off the bench for the Cavaliers, who shot 53.5% and outrebounded the Hawks 43-34 on the glass. The Cavaliers committed 17 turnovers if you wanted to find a negative about their performance, and they shot only 6-of-19 from beyond the arc, but those are just nit-picking stats if you watched the game and saw how they dominated Atlanta on both ends of the floor for three quarters.

The Hawks got 16 points from Maurice Evans, but not much else as they shot 34.9% from the field. Josh Smith, who was their lone bright spot in Game 1, fell back to earth to a 2-of-13 showing en route to eight points to go with a single board. Joe Johnson wasn't having a great night in the first place, going 5-of-15 from the floor for 10 points, and he missed his first two foul shots of the series. But to make matters worse, he sprained his right ankle in the third quarter and was seen leaving the arena in a walking boot. If he joins Al Horford and Marvin Williams on the sideline, the Hawks are essentially done.

NBA odds have the Cavs as an eight-point favorite in Atlanta, where they split a pair of meetings during the regular season, and you have to feel bad for the Hawks. They were pretty much destined to fall in this series anyway, but with all of their injuries, it's like they were never given a fair shake. The Cavaliers aren't taking their foot off the gas, and that doesn't bode well for the Hawks.
