Yes this is my first 10 Unit play of the year. I have been looking at this game since the Pens made that Kovalev trade on Monday. I was waiting to post until I had as much info as I could have in regards to the teams line-ups.
Even though I am from Ottawa many of you know I bet with my head and not my heart. I have played against the Sens this year on about 6-7 occasions and other times I have not bothered to play on them at all.
Many things to look at for tonight. First, the Pens defence. With the trade on Monday the Pens defence is even more pathetic than it already was. They traded Ference to the Flames and Laukannen and Wilson to the Rangers. Outside of Tarnstrom the Pens traded away their next 2 best D. They got in return two defenceman who could not make many teams in the league. As it stands now the Pens D for tonight looks like this:
Heins/Tarnstrom/Bouchard/Pushor/Bergevin/Jonsson or Moran who has not scored a goal in all 55 games this year. Are you kidding me, this looks like an AHL defence. Maybe we will be watching the Scranton Wilkes-barre Penguins tonight and not the Pittsburgh Penguins.
To have 3 new D playing tonight you know all the defence pairings will make mistakes, plain and simple. You can not have that kind of turnover period, it would be bad enough if they had 3 new guys tonight playing from their system due to injuries but these are 3 new guys who have never played on this team before nor with anyone of the guys at any point in their career.
Secondly, the Sens are rested for the first time in 2 months and have not played since Sat. This team is poised to finish first in the Eastern Conference and even though Pitt is 4 points out of a playoff spot with the line-up they will icing tonight they most likely would be last in the Eastern Conference. Add in the fact that Straka is out tonight and Morozov is done for the year, who the hell is going to score for this team. Manderville, Donovan, Robitaille, McKenna, Fata, Rozsival, Kraft, Primeau or Samuelsson....not a chance. These guys are all career 3rd or 4th line guys. Now you are asking them to be 1st or 2nd line guys. The only skilled players for the Pens are Mario, Hrdina and maybe Nieminen but he only has 16 pts. this year.
Lalime is the confirmed starter for the Sens tonight and is keen to get back in after a week off. Hedberg goes for the Pens. Schaefar and Schastlivy are out for the Sens.
Sens never take the opposition lightly as Jacques always has them well prepared. Sens are wearing their 3rd jerseys tonight and they have a record of 6-1-2 when wearing them.
The Sens speed and skill will dominate a weak Pens team. As well, there is an article in todays paper stating that fans might boycott the Pens game tonight. Sens by 3 goals tonight. They pull away in the second period.

Good luck Horns. Did you happen to see the Dallas game last night? How about Downey/Boulerice? Holy shit, are you kidding me? Only seen one other fight end that quickly and decisively. Couple years ago Stu Grimson circled with a guy, then came in like Boulerice did with a hard opening right - only difference was Grimson landed his and it was over, the guy crumpled to the ice and was out cold.

The other thing I have noticed with Mario is that he is saying alot about the off ice stuff and I think it is getting to him. Think about it, why would the guy cause another distraction to his team the day after the city of Pitt is pissed about the Kovalev trade, he comes out and says he might not be back next year to play. Well, they will never get a new arena if that is the case. He is saying how they need more people to come to the games as he does not want them to have to go bankrupt again. His fight last week with Ference of Florida showed how on edge he is, he has more going on than he is letting on. Another thing, why the hell don't they call up Alex Daigle, he is sitting in Scranton on the farm team and he would bring more to the team than the majority of the metal heads they have playing at forward now. Just my 2 cents.

Grimson

Hey Texas, the guy Grimson hit was Reid Simpson when he was with the Blues. It was on the boards and I think it was a left hook.Sort of similar to what Downey did.GL tonight

vinny,

You're right, it was Simpson. Just double checked it on hockeyfights. Only thing is I was almost positive it was one quick hard straight right. Simpson never touched Grimson, except with his face (literally).

:)

Anybody know where to watch video of old hockey fights?

Either way he took it on the chin:) Could have been the right, but like you said it doesn't happen too often.

Horns, nice write up man! I wasnt too too keen on playing this game but you make a lot of good points that I just can ignore. Pittsburgh is wounded, but right now they're only a wounded kitten with no claws. Im definately on Sens now! Hope that play comes through for ya!! Best of luck!!

Peace

Another thing. It should be a whole lot easier to focus on Mario as they have nobody on any line after him that is worth paying attention to. The Sens will play the Bonk line against Mario all night as this is one thing that Bonk does real well. Jacques always has Bonk go against the number centre of any team and shadows him. This will allow the White and Fisher lines do some solid scoring. GL
