I wasn?t actually talking about the Company?s that set up off-shore entities to avoid taxes, I was referring to Companies that actually have productive plants and operations overseas. Whether or not paying on an increasing tax rate based on income or not is another topic.
My point is that this tax break is being sold as being good for everyone due to the fact that it will create more jobs and it won?t. I am assuming that you don?t think that it?s wrong for a Company to move operations overseas to make more money as that is their right, but then you find that a person is lazy for joining a union and making as much as he can for the least amount of work.
Companies need to pay taxes on their income just like individuals and when the Companies don?t pay, avoid tax or fudge their income, the money needed for governmental programs need to come from somewhere and it usually hits in the form of sales taxes as those are the easiest to increase/decrease in the short-term. And the brunt of sales tax is picked up by the lower- and middle-class.
I wish I had a solution but I don?t. I think that the answer would be economic isolation in the form of tariffs and subsidies which would hurt the economy in the long-run but would keep people working and support labor-intensive traditional industries from being hammered by foreign companies.
I hate labels, but J, the conservative?s that seem to hold the free market as the be-all, end-all are also the same people who are so religious. Does anyone think that Jesus was a capitalist? The Marxist use his teachings all the time.
A government?s primary job should be to keep someone and his money close and just because a policy is good for business doesn?t mean that it?s good for the country. And if you want to lower taxes at the same time that you?re asking for more money for a war, tell me why and don?t say that it?s for job creation when it won?t work.
