Houston(-3)(-138) over Oakland (1*)
- - I ALWAYS buy in the NFL at -3' or +2', so nothing to see there . . . I thought the 26th ranked Oakland defense was progressing as the season unfolded, and was expecting to be looking for opportunities for them to overachieve for a just a moment or two in the postseason, before their inevitable moments as a liability. But with everything now being heaped on that defense (on the road in the playoffs against the #1 defense with a rookie QB in difficult circumstances never before charted), Houston can carry my cash. Four numbers which might be worth noting are the 0-30 debacle that Houston dealt in front of the home crowd last year, #1 defenses at home in the playoffs are on an 8-0 SU run, Houston is 18-0 SU the last three years when leading at halftime, and QB Osweiler could have a little something going for him (or not) to have scored a 72 million dollar contract.

Good luck today ! I trust Osweiler less than Cook. He was a liability in college and yes he has cashed a huge check but he is just as bad in the NFL. Everything points to Houston today.

Seattle(-8)(-115) over Detroit (1*)
- - Seattle has had issues they have not answered all season, and all week I've wanted to find reasons to like Detroit, and I don't think it's too bad of a matchup for Detroit on paper . . . But every angle keeps coming up against Detroit being road warriors in this here spot, so it is what it is.

You are correct, sir. :0corn

I am right there also. And no, I won't touch the Pack today? even though I think they win. :0074

Atlanta(-6) over Seattle (1*)
Atlanta(-4)(-107)(1h) over Seattle (1*)

- - Random and non-random observations for starters: (1) I believe teams that win the turnover battle are 14-0 SU in the postseason over this season and last season; (2) Russell Wilson at QB against the Atlanta defense, and IMO at a minimum the back door will be wide open at the end of this game; and (3) This has easily been the most difficult of the first 8 playoff games for me to pull the trigger, and I think the line is a little inflated at -6, but rather than buy the line to -4(-139), I like the fast start value in the first half line of (-4)(-107) . . . Seattle's win at home over Detroit played out very much as expected, but it doesn't have me believing the issues Seattle has had on the OL, with the running game, with their imposing defense, and on the road, have been substantially cured, although I believe Russell Wilson is healthier and no longer saving himself for bigger moments. But why I like Atlanta is I think HC Dan Quinn has instilled a toughness and competitiveness that definitely wasn't there under Mike Smith, and in what might be a farewell effort in the Georgia Dome, I like their chances with the Falcons offensive versatility, and their potential to play fast and physical and without letting up while at full strength.

New England(-15') over Houston (1*)
- - Apparently I was in a significant minority last week when I specifically expected 72 million dollar QB Brock Osweiler to play OK and be a difference maker as compared to Connor ?way out of his depth here? Cook. Osweiler did play quite well, but then we apparently needed to wait for a coaching announcement that Osweiler would still be under center in the next round, which is more than bad, it?s sad . . . Houston is still pursuing the dream of playing the Super Bowl in their home stadium. New England is into Year 2 of trying to deliver on their ?middle finger tour? . . . Houston faced no adversity to speak of last week. I?m seeing a steady helping of adversity served up cold and keeping the visitor challenged in Foxboro. If I go down in flames for the first time in these playoffs, it won?t be because I was invested in Houston in this spot.

Kansas City(-2) over Pittsburgh (1*)
- - Absolutely no surprise that Pittsburgh was able to unleash a blitzkrieg attack on Miami last week; now their show goes on the road, where QB Roethlisberger has 9 TDs and 8 INTs on the season . . . KC QB Alex Smith is IMO generally too conservative when it comes to going downfield or ?throwing people open?, but he?s been at his best in his 5 postseason games while throwing 11 TDs and 1 INT. KC HC Andy Reid dominates off a bye, and Pittsburgh HC Mike Tomlin would not be on my short list of choices to pop that balloon. I expected a fan frenzy at Arrowhead and now maybe I do worry a little that attendance could suffer or emotions and volumes go muted in nasty weather . . . Both teams have been Super Bowl contenders all season, but looking at all the pieces, I think ascending KC takes the next step and shares a decades long overdue playoff win with the home fans they share with the recent World Series champion Royals.

- - Aaron Rodgers is peaking in January, and healthy. I've been hoping and waiting for exactly that, for lots and lots of seasons.
