#9 Texas now has one of the worst education systems in the nation. The following is from an opinion piece that was actually authored by Barbara Bush earlier this year....

?  We rank 36th in the nation in high school graduation rates. An estimated 3.8 million Texans do not have a high school diploma.

?  We rank 49th in verbal SAT scores, 47th in literacy and 46th in average math SAT scores.

?  We rank 33rd in the nation on teacher salaries.

The good news is, thanks to Scott Walker, Texas should be leap-frogging Wisconsin on teacher salaries any time now. :0074

As weak as Obama seems right now, I just don't see how he is going to get beat. Perry and Bachmann have no shot. There is no way either of those two could win a general election. Then you have Romney but he is a mormon. I love Paul and I hope he gains traction but he is still going to have trouble breaking through. The media just acts like he is a loon and the average American eats that shit up. This is one weak ass field.

I swallowed some poison this weekend a forced myself to listen to the "New Aged Tea Party Buffoons" and how they did their hardest to destroy RP.

Becky was back on the demonization of Ron after the debate.

The Faux News Hypnotization is cranking up early because they are scared shitless.

Trench - you clearly are trying to link teacher salaries to student performance. If that's the case, wouldn't TX kids be ranked #33, not in the low 40's????

Student performance tends to be much more closely linked to socio-economic and racial makeup of the kids.

The salaries (and WI teachers are still doing very well - not many jobs you can retire at 55 with healthcare paid until retirement and get 12 paid sick days a year for a year that is only 3/4 of a year long). They are still doing very well.

It's all supply and demand. If WI is paying too low, then we'll have teacher openings all over the place, and they'll have to increase compensation. So far, that does not appear to be the case. There are still way more applicants than openings. So, it can't be too bad of a deal for them.

Perry Changes Mind On HPV Executive Order

For years, Gov. Rick Perry has taken flak for his 2007 attempt to require girls to be vaccinated against the human papillomavirus, the most commonly sexually transmitted disease and the principal cause of cervical cancer. At the risk of angering fellow conservatives, Perry has always insisted he did the right thing.

That unapologetic approach changed this weekend.

A few hours after unveiling his campaign for president, Perry began walking back from one of the most controversial decisions of his more-than-10-year reign as Texas governor. Speaking to voters at a backyard party in New Hampshire, Perry said he was ill-informed when he issued his executive order, in February 2007, mandating the HPV vaccine for all girls entering sixth grade, unless their parents completed a conscientious-objection affidavit form. The vaccine, Merck & Co.?s Gardasil, would have protected against the forms of HPV that cause about 70 percent of all cervical cancer, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control.

Wow - this is a tough one for me to figure out. I can understand the health benefits of the vaccination, but requiring all to get vaccinated?

If it is an infectious disease (I don't think CC can be passed on via sex - maybe it can?) then, yes, mandatory shots make sense.

Again, this is a tough one.

You're a really slow comprehender, eh, Maggot?

HPV is the major cause of cervical cancer. HPV is sexually transmitted, so vaccination against HPV prevents transmission and the cervical cancer that goes with it.

Got a daughter? Want to protect her against cervical cancer, or let her take her chances?

Now, back to the chase, Maggot, you cowardly POS. How much skin do YOU have in the game?

See, Muff, when you are married, and don't sleep around, this stuff doesn't concern you all that much...

I'm sure you aren't though - since you are such an old coot, you probably couldn't get a woody anyway without a barrell of Viagra anyway.....

An old miserable, complaining, old man you are. With an old wife to boot! Good life you have! :mj07:
