saint, i do not know how the govt spends the money, but all i know is they do pay state taxes as well, and never file a return. so the money is at least used for something. I know the stats the Govt. throws at ya, 1 billion in health care, but i would go so far as to say, that every single "illegal" that has worked in this country, could visit the doctor 2 times, and still would not be even close to what they have paid into "taxes".
You see I am with Smurphy as well, the Govt, does like to throw out numbers like what you have quoted.
But I have yet to see the numbers on the working dead, thats right, most of these "illegals" use dead people's SS #s, you do not see the Govt breaking down doors and returning money to the dead, do you. And last time I checked teh Govt, did not post a figure that stated,
Last year's unclaimed, or unfiled tax returns, was at an estimated 4.5 billion dollars. No they hush up about that and simply spend it.
So it is easy to get washed up in what you hear, I think they are just trying to find ways of spreading the guilt about how they have fucked up the health care system themselves, and over spent. and given the executives over inflated bonuses, just as every fucking institution has these past few years. It is just as easy to say that it is the "illegal" bogging down the system. you see it gets you angry at the mexican instead of who is really at fault.
