16 team college playoff....

Think of the match-ups in a 16 game playoff.... A playoff would be so simple to do! 4 weeks is easy!

First, tell Notre Dame to join a conference, along with other independents, if they want to be considered. The Big 10 woudl fit for ND since there's already 11 of them and they are "in the neighborhood" - make it 12 and keep calling it the "Big 10" - why not? You've called it the Big 10 with eleven teams, why not?!?!

Second, make all conferences have a conference championship game. Yes, that means you too, PAC 10. Come one, everyone else is doing it.... ((Except that conference that can't really count, but when ND joins and they have to rename it the BIG MidWEST COnference (idea for another new thread...what to call it?), they'll do a CG too!))

Third, 11 game season with no more than 2 OOC games.... No more complaining about OCC schedules... We'll settle this soon enough!!!

Fourth, Conf CG are all played Thanksgiving weekend!!! Now, tell me how far up the scale Thanksgiving goes.... For most of you, that would be a close second to Christmas as far as holidays are concerned. (It's already my favorite holiday.)

Fifth, Standard 16 team playoff each weekend for 4 weeks.... Play the "other" 55 (or however many stupid corporate America will sponsor) bowl games on Tuesday, Thursday nights.... X-Mas Eve, X-Mas Day, New Year's Day, New Year's Eve.... Whenever, but the "playoff is reserved for each Saturday....

Sixth, Most important and controversial.... Deciding the Top 16 teams.... Conference Champions get automatics.... I don't care if you are in the Sun Belt!!! You win your conference, you get in.... Just like the NCAA Baskets.... Who wouldn't enjoy Troy putting out Tennessee in the first round?!!? Notre Dame, you don't like it? Then JOIN A FREAKING CONFERENCE!

Sixth (cont) - That gives us 11 of the 16 teams.... Here's the rub! Picking the 5 "at-large" teams.... This is where the ludicris BCS comes into play.... :scared Who would be these 5 teams this year?!?! Yeah, I'll let you look that one up.

Seventh - Play 4 weeks and have a NC Game and actually mean it! :SIB

in his model, i think the winner of usc/oklahoma plays lsu or florida from the other side...in my opinion.

i think troy would give wvu everything they could handle, but fall short.

hawaii kansas would be fun to watch....over under 100 anyone?

hawaii should be ranked much better than 12. they should be a 3 or 4 seed, or don't even make the wac division 1. i'm not saying they are close to a top 3 team, but if they are division one and they are the only undefeated team, and still not getting any votes, why are they even division 1....whats the point.

???

yawn

a 16 team playoff would make the reg season so worthless (an 8 teamer might do the same) as it means taking 3rd/4th place teams from bcs conf who really didnt do much for most of the season.

a 4 teamer would be fine as it should be a reward for having a great season, not an average one.

Did you yawn when George Mason made their run? Villinova??? I say the little guy deserves a chance!!! :00hour

Otherwise, as BDB said, why even put them in Div I?!?!?

Does Div II or Div III have "sub-conferences" made of up "lesser deserving teams"???

I say 5 non-BCS conferences champs + an At Large having play-in games

CUSA vs MAC
SunBelt vs WAC
MWC vs At Large

12 Team, 4 week playoff with top 4 seeds getting byes.

Top 4 rated conference winners get byes, other two + 3 at large teams + 3 play-in winners play week 1 of the playoffs....and so on.

I'd have to figure out the seeding later

why?

why should the lesser conferences have to do anything special. no one can ever give me a clear answer as to why hawaii shouldn't be playing in the national title game. they are a division one school who is the only undefeated team in the country. do i think they could be the uscs, lsus, floridas, wvus, etc. probably not, but was boise supposed to beat oklahoma last year. how about louisian monroe winning in alabama. weird stuff happens all the time in college and especially the bowls. i mean why is hawaii even division one. i can understand if there were more than one unbeaten but there isn't.

if you tell a team at the beginning of the year that they can win every game and opportunity available to them, that they aren't even in contention for a championship, then WHY ARE THEY DIVISION I.

again, i'm not saying i think they are great, but why aren't they given the chance. Re-classify division one. Its a travesty that teams can win everything avilable to them and not even get a chance to play. they are pulling teeth to even get a BCS game. WHY ARE THEY DIVISION I?

That is the point I've always made about some of these so-called D-I teams.
Why are teams from the Sun Belt, WAC, Mountain West and others supposed to be on the same level as those from the SEC or other "power" conferences.

Take the top 6 conferences, form a new division and you'd have what, 75 or so teams, and then have a playoff of the top 8 from those teams at the end.
And you could still have all these meaningless bowl games we have now by letting the best of the---lets call them the "we are too full of ourselves to understand that we are NOT D-I caliber football playing schools" or the WATFOUTWFPS league; and they can fill the slots against all the 6-6 teams from the REAL D-I leagues--like the Hawkeyes....:mj07:

Another question--

Would the higher seeded teams host in the early rounds? Northern Iowa is the #1 seed in 1-AA and they stay home until the championship, if they make it that far.
Not a problem as they play indoors, but what about the cold-weather teams hosting games this time of year?
I've got no problem going to a game in Iowa City if this came about(and the Hawkeyes were actually good enough to qualify) I've been to some very cold games over the years at Kinnick--and hey, the NFL does it that way, why can't the colleges?
