A beautiful and energetic toddler who lived with his family in my neighborhood accidentally burned himself with hot water early this week. He was brought to a local hospital and treated for minor burns. He was held overnight and released the following day. The burns were comparable to sunburn. He developed a fever, so mom called hospital. They told her probably a virus. At 4am the little boy began wheezing and was rushed to the ER, where he passed wednesday morning. Cause appears to be an infection, but not sure yet.

Don't allow fear, inhibition, anxiety, stress or anything else keep you from enjoying every day of your life with your loved ones. You never know when your world is going to collapse, as it has for this wonderful young family.

RIP little buddy.

That is awful and sad... Having a child die would be the worst thing, ever...

I try to remind myself to approach the world with gratitude every day, and remember what is really important. Brady Quinn had a great statement this week after what happened in KC:

"When it happened, I was thinking, 'What could I have done differently?' When you ask someone how they're doing, do you really mean it? When you answer someone back, are you really telling the truth? We live in a society of social networks, and Twitter pages and Facebook, and that's fine. But we have contact with our work associates, our families and friends, and it seems sometimes that we're more preoccupied with our phones than the relationships going on in front of us. Hopefully, people can learn from this and try to figure out that somebody's battling something deeper on the inside than maybe they're revealing on a day-to-day basis."

Hedgie since you have kids you should be able to figure out that no matter how much you keep your eyes on them, that stuff happens. Just because a child gets burnt doesn't mean it's neglect...which is what you are implying of course.

Such a sad story and it makes me stomach turn. The thought of losing a child is unbearable. There are some nasty bacteria in the hospital, I guess possibly a noscomial infection. I stopped reading the news on a daily basis because everything was so sad....prayers for their family.

Neglect is neither an issue or concern. The burn was just an accident. The burn was minor and unrelated to the undiagnosed infection which resulted in his death.

Horrible to read this, Cie. My condolences to everyone that knew the little man. As everyone has stated, there can not be anything worse in life than to lose your child.

Very disturbing to hear this. As previously stated, I couldn't even imagine.
When my son was 3 he was goofing around in the living room, tripped and face planted into the entertainment center and will have a lifelong scar on his cheek. He's 9 now and I still cringe when he flies up and down the staircase in the house.
Thoughts to those that lost their child so early. Terrible that such things happen to children.
