Kansas -5 (TAMU), 220/200
------ I'm sick of capping with the relatively meager amount of money I have in my account... so I'm going to push almost all of it in on this one (with a super bowl prop)...
I like KU a lot in this one. A&M, in my opinion, is an overrated team. I made a comment in one of these threads in the preseason... where someone, i think it was that Don Wallace guy, was talking about how A&M was so underrated, and everyone was agreeing with him... and I see the same thing now... everyone talks about how underrated this team is... and it just isnt true. They have a couple nice players, they play good defense, and they are coached well. Will that translate into a sweet 16 appearance, maybe even an elite 8? Yeah, probably. But they simply arent a contender for the national championship.
That said... Here are my reasons for this play:
1. Gameday is in Lawrence. Kids take a lot of pride in being 'the best fans in sports' or whatever the hell. i take issue with that... because i think if 'we' were such good fans, the football team would sellout regardless of how good they are, but i digress. The Fieldhouse is going to ABSOLUTELY ROCKING tonight. I'm going, and i think i will have a migraine by the time i head out to drink tonight... its gonna be sick... earlier on Gameday, a couple hours ago, Allenfieldhouse was already a fourth full.... almost 12 hours before tipoff. A&M better be ready to face the most hostile environment they will see all season.
2. Everyone talks about A&M's defense... but KU is a tremendous D team as well. I think KU is comparable in that department. A&M plays at a different tempo, and that is why their stats look better.
3. KU can win this game in several ways. A&M needs several things to break for them to win.
KU can play the slow-down game that A&M prefers, and get the ball inside, and hit jump shots. My guess is they will want to run and let their athletes overwhelm the Aggies. If they turn this into a trackmeet... KU will win big.
4. KU is very good in games when the nation is paying attention. Their losses this season? Oral Roberts, Depaul, TT. Games they just didnt care to play in (which I have an issue with, of course). They show up for games they know they have to. Florida is a good example. Boston College is another.
5. KU has been very good against TAMU the last couple seasons. I dont care much for historical stats, but this bears repeating. This TAMU team may be a bit better, but it doesnt have Wright.
6. This game reminds me a lot of the KU-UT game last season. KU was rolling and looking awesome and unbeatable. The line came out around -5 ((think it might have been closer to -6), a bunch of people jumped on KU... and UT absolutely dropped the hammer on them. TAMU obliviously isnt the young team that KU was, so im not calling for a game like that... but i think the mindsets are similar.
It is tough to put money on the pysche of the KU team, because they show up when they feel like it... I am positive they will be ready tonight, though.
If TAMU slows the game down and hits perimeter shots and makes it a great game that comes down to the wire, so be it.
GL guys.
