first off ive never cared for the pompous Commish Stern, makes too much money and believes his smug hype IMO ...

that said, I am a big spurs fan and also love watching the suns, I have $$ on the spurs to meet deet in finals--so ... I am livid with stern suspending amare and boris, they didnt do a damn thing other than react like any human would and come to emotional aid (2 steps) after Horry's redneck decking of the suns leader ...

No one has to remind of the letter of the law, I know the rule, but lets show some intent and use some intelligence instead of punishing players and fans ... arguably the biggest game of the NBA season and 2 incredibly key sun players are missing :shrug:

why play 90+ games and then go in with half an army ... sickening ruling by NBA--my heart goes out to true Suns fans (again I know its only hoops, but i think back when I was 15 and loved my team to death) ... this is just a travesty of applying a rule IMO ...

Stern, I hope you sleep well probably handing the Spurs the title in your myopic power world ...

The suspension was a complete joke and everyone knows it.

If I was the Suns, I'd refuse to play and just forfit to proove a point lol. Honestly, imagine if they did that how pissed off the NBA would be. Even better, if the Spurs joined in a hold out to proove a point.

If you think about it, how could the Spurs live with themselves knowing they were just handed this series by the NBA... its a joke.

When Phoenix's Boris Diaw leaped off the bench after teammate Steve Nash was hip-checked to the floor in the waning seconds of Game 4 on Monday night, he was more likely to be delivering croissants than seeking retribution against San Antonio's Robert Horry, the player who committed the foul on Nash.

That's why the suspensions of Diaw and teammate Amar? Stoudemire for Game 5 on Wednesday night are, in a word, wrong.

NBA rules state that in the event of an on-court incident, "all players not participating in the game must remain in the immediate vicinity of their bench. Violators will be suspended, without pay, for a minimum of one game and fined $35,000." The rule was instituted after a bench-clearing brawl between the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls in the 1994 playoffs and cemented during the NBA's darkest hour, the 2004 brawl in the Palace of Auburn Hills in which Indiana Pacers players went into the stands. Its intention is to prevent an already bad situation from escalating.

This situation in San Antonio, however, wasn't even close to that one. Nor was it close to what happened even in the Denver Nuggets-New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden last December, when a few players came off the bench after a small fracas started under the basket. Every rule must be enforced with common sense, and this is one that called for a dose of that from the league office.

Here's the sequence of events: Horry hip-checks Nash almost directly in front of the Phoenix bench. Nash could've been seriously hurt. Stoudemire and Diaw rise in protest. They don't come near Horry. They don't **** a fist. Diaw, a confirmed pacifist, takes a few steps and then seems to think, "Ah, hell with it," and retreats. There was no threat of escalation, no exchange of physicality at all, except for the Suns' Raja Bell shoving Horry, an act that drew a technical foul. A careful review of the tape -- and I have no doubt that the NBA reviewed it countless times -- reveals that there was no threat of this thing turning into a donnybrook.

The NBA deserves much credit for going to great lengths to reduce the violence in its game. But rules with no wriggle room, rules with no gray area at all, do not serve the game.

The net result of this incident is that Horry commits a dirty play and the Suns are the team most severely penalized, having to play Game 5 without their leading scorer in Stoudemire and a top reserve in Diaw.

It isn't fair.

"It's not a matter of fairness," said Stu Jackson, the league's enforcement czar. "It's a matter of correctness."

Now, there's a statement that will go down in jurisprudence history.

I think this sentence sums it up about the supensions. He thinks he is larger than life. If you check out the You tube version of the 86 draft a guy posted and see him giving the Nicks the first overall pick (grabbing the envelope with the bent corner)and then lying about it with a straight face its all you need to know about his character.
In my opinion the Spurs have completely outplayed the Suns in this series and if Ginobbli would just hit half of his shots this would be an easy series for them. First time i ever saw him get this cold.

rooted for PHX, had a future on spurs--you could just see that phx wouldfold in final 3 mins or so, could not get a decent shot in last 6 poss. or so, spurs drained theirs when not throwing the ball away

well as anyone expected, league musta got what they wanted ... spurs my fave team, but this should be going 7 ... i wonder if stern realizes this taints whole league, or is he that friggin demigodish to think his sh*t doesnt smell? ...

sickening feeling watching last 2 games, not sure if you guys thought that, but like i said spurs fave team and feel sheepish they are moving on

Going with the age card, huh? I am 22 and not even insecure to mention it. I am BANKING I know more hoop knowledge than you. Stick to your sportscenter analysis for your plays.

Hindsight is 20/20. Injuries can happen. Even a suspension can happen. Is that the Suspensions fault or the SUns philosophy of ALWAYS HAVING a short bench. Maybe if D'Antoni had a deeper bench he couldve suppressed the tiredness in the fourth quarter.

PHX got outcoached, outdefended, and outplayed PERIOD.

i guess we are both geniuses then because I picked SA and Det too.

If it takes me 20 more years to completely get a great sense of understanding basketball, i find that highly flawed... but to each their own.
