YTD Record (3-0)

God bless the beginning of the football season. I think you see a lot of lines that are based on reputation and perception. If the following two games were played later this season I don?t think the lines would look anything like they do today. Having said that?

Oregon (-5) I absolutely love this game. I took OU at home against UW last week and was mortified to see them struggle against such a bad football team. I?m still not impressed with Thompson (how many wide open receivers can you overthrow?) and the fact that they have looked bad against the likes of UAB is pretty telling in my opinion. Oregon, on the other hand, is a very good team. They?re coming off a hard-fought victory at Fresno and now they come home to face the Sooners. Autzen is one of the best home field advantages in all of college football. It?s very hard for a team to come to Eugene and beat the Ducks. They have two great backs in Stewart and Johnson who have are averaging over 160 yards/game between them and they each have 3 touchdowns in the first 2 games of the season. Dixon at QB, while not Heisman material, is an accurate passer who does a good job of managing the game. And while the Ducks may not have the best defense in the nation, I do think they will do a good job of keying on Peterson and limiting his yardage. I don?t expect them to get beat by Thompson?s arm. Lastly, I think there is a little bit of revenge at stake here for the Ducks. They lost last year?s bowl game 17-14 to the Sooners and they are 0-6 all time against OU. Maybe I?m wrong about OU. Maybe they?re a good team that hasn?t jelled yet. I?m certainly not betting on it though. I honestly think they get pasted by 14+ points on Saturday.

Fresno State (-3) First things first? I bought the hook in this game. I really don?t think I?ll need it but I absolutely hate betting road faves in college foots so I?m playing it safe. I?m not going to overanalyze this one, I?m just going with the better team. FSU?s running game is very good. I don?t see the U being able to take that weapon away from them, no matter how hard they try. Brandstater isn?t a guy who is going to light up the scoreboard, but if he can limit his mistakes Fresno will be fine. On the other side of the ball, I think the Huskies will also try to establish their running game. Everyone likes to talk about Stanback because of his highlight reel scrambling ability, but Louis Rankin is probably the best player on the Huskies offense. I?m still not sure why Willingham starts James over him, but that?s another matter altogether. Their receiving corp (Williams, Shackelford, Russo, etc.) are all very average. As I said before, Stanback is a great scrambler and a great athlete, but he?s not a guy who is going to beat you with his arm. I expect FSU to stack the box and try to take away UW?s running game. I really think it warrants mentioning that UW was a 2-9 team last year and they really didn?t do anything to improve on that this year. I think people might be a little misled by the fact that they hung around with OU last week. I don?t think that?s an indication of UW?s talent, but rather an indictment on Oklahoma?s.

Good luck everyone?

Great write-ups Glenn...but I learned my lesson last week with those two teams...but I wouldn't play the Sooners either in that spot because of last week...Good luck with all your plays this week!

Thanks Thom. I could be wrong about the Oregon game but they will be ready for OU. Their homefield advantage is unreal. Also, there's been a lot of talk about how they really want to beat a highly ranked non-conference team to not only boost their ranking but help the Pac-10 as well. Peterson also made some offhanded comment about how the Pac-10 doesn't play nearly as tough as the Big-12. Not disagreeing with him at all, but I think that was some good bulletin board material. Good luck...

I'm also adding...

Miami (+4) - I'm far from an expert when it comes to the ACC, so I'm treading on thin ice here. However, I do think Miami is a better team than Louisville. I know their offense has looked very suspect but I have to think their D will show up in spades on Saturday. Miami is rarely an underdog and when they are they just don't lose. I've heard a lot of talk about how this is a statement game for Louisville. While I believe that to be true, I also think this is a statement game for Miami. They certainly don't want to go 1-2 and they would love to silence their critics after losing to FSU at home. I don't think their offense will exactly light up the scoreboard but I don't think they will have to. Louisville's O is great, no doubt, but they're usually rolling up points against weak opponents. They will definitely be tested on Saturday.

I think the Ducks are an excellent play. Fresno was just a warmup for the big one. :SIB

Thanks Axle. I honestly think beating Fresno on the road is a much tougher task than beating OU at home. Good luck with your plays...

Glen, good luck to you. Looks like your YTD will
go to 6-0. Oregon played OU to basically a dead
even draw last year in the bowl game. Left a
bad taste in their mouth. They know they can
beat the Sooners. That QB situation at OU is
the KILLER. Ducks at HOME. Paybacks are a
BITCH. I took Fresno too. The line scares the
hell out of me but I took it anyway. I think
your on the right side with Miami as a dog but
just couldn't pull the trigger, yet. Man is it heaven
to have football back or what! :spotting:

Thanks Kramer. Yes, I completely agree. It's GREAT to have football back. I got killed so bad at baseball this year I threw in the towel about halfway through. :mj07: As for the Fresno line, it actually started higher and has gone down a bit. I think the public might be betting UW because they managed to hang with OU on the road last week. They also might be getting the benefit of the doubt cuz it's a home game. Either way I think they lose by 10 or more. Good luck with your picks!

I love both of these picks, but I got Oregon at -4 :)

Good luck this weekend. I've gone 2-0 so far and I'm hoping the momentum will carry to Saturday and help me recoup my horrible Sunday last week.

Wow. What a brutal day. I go 0-3 on my picks and 5-1 on my leans. :mj07: Figures. Oregon decides to play one of the worst games I have ever seen them play at Autzen, yet they still win thanks to the refs and Stoops' inexplicably idiotic playcalling at the end. Fresno somehow manages to lose outright to an awful UW team and Miami just gets rolled by Louisville. Never in my wildest dreams did I think both Fresno and Oregon would fail to cover. Sorry to anyone who may have tailed...

Two gross games.

I did take Michigan in the ML...except I parlayed it like a n00b. Whoops.
