Even though the Ashes is a "best of five" match series, not all five day matches get a result. Some end in a draw when the weather doesn't allow for enough time to play out 2 innings for each side. Sometimes both teams might bat it out for a few days and the team that is behind in the last innings is able to hang on and play for the draw (that is not go out by the end of the fifth day). England is famous for its inclement weather so it is unlikely that all five matches won't be interupted by rain. This first match lost a lot of time on the fourth day due to the rain.

Therefore highly unlikely that this series will be decided 3-2 or 4-1 etc.

It should also be noted that this Australian team has a habit of making matches finish early (fourth day) due to their ability to "smack the bejesus" out of their opposition!!!

I hope this clears up your query.

Thanks Paw, that helps alot. I'm becoming an expert now, I even know what a wicket is. We have a cricket pitch here in west Texas that a couple of Indian doctors built. Haven't been out to see a match yet, though.

Thanks again.

If you get a chance to have a knock around, have a go. It's not as easy as it looks. Judging a ball from less than 60ft with it bouncing in front of you at varying distances from you is not easy. Fielding is not as easy as it looks either, especially when the ball travels at you with great velocity and you have to field it with your bare hands.

Anyway, the world cup comes to the West Indies in a few years time and some games are also to be played in the USA, venues are not comfirmed at present.

I'm tipping that Indian doctors won't be bowling any speed balls!! More likely slow spinners.

Geez.....they'd have to be worried about their hands and fingers wouldn't they? Hard to practice medicine with busted up fingers!! :scared

oh Bulldog, do you never learn....

I know plenty about you don't worry...I wish I could say the same about the guys at Sporting Life/Betting Zone...do you challenge me to prove this??

so that clears up points 1 + 2.

point 3 - fine none of my business, but you would be surprised how many UK bookmakers I know....we may have a mutual friend or 2 (although not many lend out laptops at cricket matches...)

no mention of the 6/1 Australia tho.....

ps I still have that interesting e-mail your 'wife' sent Crooky a couple of years ago!! very strange...I'd post that too but it would get the site taken down wouldn't it!!!
