UWM is a good squad but I must question your statement concerning UWM being able to size up. Their tallest starter is all of 6-7. They are a short team but so they better hope their shots are falling.

utep
utah

really a fan of utep this year but just cant back em against utah. i can reasons for betting both sides of this one. utes are a great team at this time of year especially in the first round. at very worst, this will give a national stage to bogut and thomas. neither gets the credit they deserve (aside from jimmy dykes swininging from bogut's sack). i can see the winner of this game giving oklahoma tons of trouble in round 2. the fan in me wants utep to get it done here, but think utah is the logical choice to advance.

niagara
oklahoma

was really set to hammer niagara in the opening round...until they drew oklahoma. im not particularly thrilled with the matchup for the purple. but i still have to drop a few bucks on mendez and the boys. im just not sold on oklahoma at all, especially as a 3 seed. this is all gonna come down to defense for niagara. they can score with anyone in the country. but they wont stay in this game if they let the sooners pound em inside. im gonna take my chances, as well as follow sun tzu and some other solid guys who are gonna be riding niagara. backdoor could be open as well if needed. very potent offense getting a lot of points. just gotta stay away from some early oklahoma haymakers.

ucla
texas tech

another game i want no part of. both teams are wildly inconsistent. i think ucla is a pathetic defensive team though. not sure what the hell howland is doing and whats not getting through to the bruins but theyre lame on that end. i think tech's motion could get easy basket after easy basket. but i just like tech so much more as an underdog. im a big gonzaga fan, but can also see either team giving the bulldogs trouble in round 2. think this one will go to tech and do think they cover, but not touching it.

gonzaga
winthrop

i do my best to follow almost every d-1 team in some way. and this is where i just stand up and say i know absolutely zero about winthrop. so not gonna try and throw together a bullshit writeup on this one.

im down on milwaukee big for round one with smaller plays on niagara and cincinnati. might grab pacific at halftime if the situation is favorable.

take care and catch you fellas thursday

good luck and thanks for posting so much. I also have to step up and defend the greatness that is Napoleon Dynamite. Sheer genius that is not intended for everyone.

Let's smack the man today.

gman--

great take on Napoleon Dynamite. As you say, its not for everyone, and thats fine. Like I said, my wife hated it while I thought it was brillant at so many different levels....as far as knowing people like that at our schools...I WAS those people at mine...LMFAO!!!
great looking card so far, good luck in the tourney.

Nice job on UWMILW--I think u were first to like this game- I woke up too late to bet this morning on west coast, but have always had opinion Gottfried and bama soft (when Kent st beat them a few years ago I swore Id never touch them again under him--so Im not surprised they are gone--sec 0-2 ATS thus far), great call by you, congrats!

been tossing this one back and forth, but gonna go with my original instinct and lay a few bucks on the jays. i think theyre more balanced and play better defense. also have a feeling that wvu might run out of gas toward the end of this one. im expecting it to be a lower-scoring affair, and wvu coming off 4 games in 4 nights less than a week ago. been going back and forth with some buddies as to the validity of that theory. common response from them is that its tourney time and it doesnt matter. not saying its gonna be the deciding factor, but for a team who relies on the 3 ball, if theyre not fresh, creighton will control this game and advance. jays played 3 in 3 nights but did it a few days earlier than wvu.

creighton (+1) over wvirginia

probably gonna be the only thing i touch at night

thanks gregg. lets just say that had alabama won, id have been out a lot of money and had every single one of my brackets off to a shitty start. had a lot invested in that team. cant say enough about how impressed i was when i saw them this year in person (as well as the handful of times on tv). their draw will limit it them to the sweet 16 at best, but i absolutely expect them to win another game when they play the winner of bc/penn. theyve got the shooters to break the bc zone and the athleticism to match bc as well. really high on the panthers. just sucks they got thrown on illinois side of the bracket. but pearl is a terrific coach and he's got a damn good team.

I feel like you cheated me Gman...

And as soon as i figure out how, i'll get out of this bet you forced me into :)

Excellent call man, i shoulda known better than to take you on. Your guys played a much better game, great outside shooting, forced the turnovers, and whenever Bama closed to within 5 (twice i think in the second half) they came up with a big bucket.

I'm online now if you wanna im me your address for the visor. And unless you say different color i'm going to send you a black one. Basic black, Elephant in the middle. Its the same one i currently sport (i won't be sendin you my visor of course but you get what i mean)

alright. ended up settling on all this for thursday. will work on friday's stuff later on tonight. gonna try and head down to the convocation center and hope to find a reasonably priced ticket for the wake/utc creighton/wvu session that is under $100. wish me luck.  i think ill need it.

afternoon:

very big -- wisconsin-milwaukee (won)
niagara (lost)
cincinnati (pending. better not lose)

evening:

creighton (+1) (reasons above)

utah state (+5.5) (low line doesnt leave a lot of room for error but cant ignore how washington state completely frustrated arizona in both meetings this season and that style is what utah state will bring tonight. if arizona gets past this game, they could easily make a deep run. but simply see this one as being way too dangerous and will take my shot with the aggies)

Great writeups Gman. Even better - they're not cut n' pastes, they're your own. :)

Well-thought out, good perspective esp on the UWM game. Good luck.
