The 138th running of the Belmont Stakes is just over two weeks away, and we're starting to get an idea of the field. Here's the latest Belmont News:
Several horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby but did not appear at the Preakness will be returning for the Belmont Stakes. These include Bluegrass Cat and Steppenwolfer, who finished second and third in the Derby, and Jazil, who was in dead heat with Brother Derek at Churchill Downs.
Bernardini will not be running in the Belmont Stakes, with Darley Stable electing to give the Preakness Stakes winner a rest. This means, for only the third time in 35 years, that neither the Kentucky Derby nor Preakness victors will be at Belmont.
Sweetnorthernsaint is still a possible Belmont contender. With Brother Derek and Barbaro out of the running for Belmont, Sweetnorthernsaint is the only course which could conceivably run in all 2006 Triple Crown Races.
All-in-all, June 10th will prove to an interesting day at Belmont Park! Keep your eye on the Bodog Racebook for Belmont odds, and go there anytime for the best in online horse betting!
