Yes new QB this year.. I have seen them ranked anywhere form 7 to 10. It is a joke, take a look of the teams they beat last year.. They lost to any team that was above average. I think they were up to 4 or 5 at one point last year. These Wisky fans are just as nuts as it gets as far as over rating their team from year to year. Totally amazing. Wisky would be .500 if they played in the SEC.

Michigan was not above average? Lost to Tennessee by 4 in Bowl. All these guys do is win every year and play well in bowl games. You need to find a better example of over rated. And the QB was new last year too and that didn't stop them from winning.

Who will be the top impact freshmen?
by Justin Hokanson/Bleacher Report, Special to FOXSports.com

Here's a list of the top 10 freshmen who could make big impacts with their teams this year. Not only does this list take talent into account, but also teams' depth charts.

10. Enrique Davis, RB, Ole Miss
Davis is a stud running back originally from Florida who signed with Auburn out of high school. He went to Hargrave Academy in Virginia for a year. When the Tigers switched to the spread offense, Davis decided to go somewhere else. He landed with Houston Nutt and Ole Miss, and he is sure to make an immediate impact with the Rebels.

9. A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
A.J. Green was one of the top receivers in the nation and has great size. With loss of Sean Bailey, the Bulldogs are looking for big-time playmakers to go along with Mohamed Massaquoi at wideout. Green has a chance to be a difference-maker on a championship contender.

8. Marcus Fortson, DL, Miami
Fortson was maybe the best DL in the nation last year, coming out of Northwestern High School in Miami. The Hurricanes are looking for a resurgence, and it all starts in the trenches. This dominant player racked up 21 sacks last year as a senior.

7. Omar Hunter, DL, Florida
If there's one position where the Gators are lacking big-time talent, it's at the defensive tackle position. They have been a bit thin there, but Hunter has a chance to provide the Gators with a big-time tackle who can play the nose in a 3-4 or tackle in a 4-3.

6. Daquan Bowers, DE, Clemson
Clemson has a need at defensive end, and Bowers was the best end in the nation last year. He will provide instant help and has a chance to come in and start. He was dominant last year with 15 sacks and over 30 tackles for a loss.

5. DeAndre Brown, WR, Southern Miss
When was the last time Southern Miss could say they had a nationally known impact player? Well, the Golden Eagles landed the second-best receiver in the nation last year from right there in Mississippi. This 6-foot-6 receiver has a chance to make some plays and take some pressure off of Damion Fletcher and the running game. Brown not only had over 700 yards receiving, but also over 1,000 yards rushing his senior year in high school.

4. Tyrelle Pryor, QB, Ohio State
While Pryor might have been the best player in the nation last year, he isn't at the top of this list. He will be a backup to Todd Boeckman, but look for the Buckeyes to be able to use Pryor the same way the Gators used Tim Tebow in their title run. He should add some extra versatility to the Buckeye offense this year. Pryor had over 4,000 rushing yards and 4,000 passing yards in his high school career.

3. Darrell Scott, RB, Colorado
This might have been the most curious commitment from last year's class, with Scott heading to Boulder. Scott is a stud at 6-foot and 205 pounds. He was the nation's top back last year, rushing for almost 1,700 yards and 21 touchdowns. No doubt he will instantly be a playmaker on that Colorado offense and he could start from Day 1.

2. Patrick Johnson, CB, LSU
LSU pulled off a huge surprise when it took Johnson out of Florida, away from the likes of Miami, Florida, USC and Florida State. Johnson was the top corner in the nation last year and has great size at 6-foot-1 and almost 200 pounds. With LSU losing their top two corners from last year, Johnson provides immediate help at a position of need for the Tigers and should be playing and contributing from the first game.

1. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Maybe the nation's top recruit from last year, Jones has big-time talent and should be able to come in and play right away at a position where Alabama needs playmakers after losing its top three receivers from last year. He will be on the field from Day 1 and has a chance to start right away, as well. Almost 25 percent of Jones' catches last year went for touchdowns.

Returning Starters

Listed below are the returning starters for all the major college teams. We have even expanded the list to not only include the offensive & defensive starters but also the special teams. Of course, there are 11 starters on offense & defense, and on special teams we list 2 possibilities (Kicker & Punter). An (*) next to the offense means the quarterback is returning.

Top 5
Temple- 24 - 0ff-11* Def-11 St-2

No. Illinois- 22 - Off-10* Def-11 St-1

Ohio State- 21 - Off-10* Def-9 St-2

Ball State- 20 - Off-11* Def-7 St-2

Penn State- 20 - Off-9 Def-9 St-2

Bottom 5
Louisville- 10 - Off-4 Def-5 St-1

New Mexico- 10 - Off-5* Def-5 St-0

Oregon State- 10 - Off-7 Def-3 St-0

Georgia Tech- 9 - Off-5 Def-4 St-0

Army- 8 - Off-4* Def-4 St- 0

Phil Steele

When I look at a team for the upcoming year one of the first factors I look at is the amount of returning starters. Last year there were 9 teams in the NCAA that had 18 or more returning starters and 7 of the 9 improved their record from 2006. Making the list were teams like Virginia which went from 5-7 to 9-3 and Florida Atlantic which went from 5-7 to Sun Belt Champs. Teams with 17 returning starters included Central Florida which went from 4-8 to CUSA Champs and Illinois which went from 2-10 to the Rose Bowl!!

On the other end of the spectrum there were 33 teams last year that had 12 or fewer returning starters and of the 33 only 8 managed to improve their record. Some of the less experienced teams that really dropped last year included Notre Dame which had just 9 returning starters and went from the Sugar Bowl to 3-9! Nebraska went from 9-4 to 5-7 with just 11 returning starters and Northern Illinois with 12 returnig starters went from 7-6 to 2-10.

The numbers I used above accounts for just the offensive and defensive starters returning which gives you a possible high of 22. The chart I list below also counts the teams specialists (punter and kicker) and gives you 24 as a possible high for returning starters. Who are this years most experienced in terms of returning starters? Here is the complete list for 2008 ranked from high to low.

IE posted this yesterday....big news for the hoosiers....

07/07/2008 Hoosiers reinstate Kellen Lewis
The cloud of doubt has been removed as Kellen Lewis has been reinstated by the Hoosiers. I'm not sure if this comes as a huge surprise to anyone, but it is certainly one thing you can cross off your checklist. Lewis is a top 20 quarterback. However without James Hardy to throw jump balls to, you may have to pick your spots a bit more in 2008.

07/07/2008 Leon Patton's legal woes
Leon Patton (Kansas St. RB) was arrested early Monday morning for driving with a suspended license and two outstanding warrants. Obviously the suspended license is not the issue here. It is the outstanding warrants. One of which is for an alleged theft of...well...video games in 2007. Keep an eye on this one, we have Patton pegged as a top 50 fantasy RB in 2008 with solid upside potential.
