Both deals are done as noted on several media outlets, however, I'm quite surprised not much has gone on with MAX factor yet. I know his agent is waiting to see what Lester gets before putting the pedal to the metal to get MAX the best deal, but these guys that get those large contracts, think about it! They all fall on their arses the same season, ie errr, example = Verlander resigning big deal with Tiggers, Ubaldo Jimenez (iron mike arm - pitching machine type arm), Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Hamels has a well below ave year (2 yrs ago), teams tend to score less runs also for the pitchers who get the mega deals, ironic? Perhaps!

Long term, big deals only kill the momentum and structure of the teams and make ticket prices higher for any fan/family wanting to take their kids to a ball game. It's ludicrous, but it will continue to happen because we have all these Einstein GM's and ego driven Owners, that have no clue on how to build and keep a winner!

It'll be an interesting next couple days at the Winter Meetings in SD!!

Lester said to sign with Giants or Cubs today! Cubs? Really? Come on MAN!

[h=1]Cubs make earth-shattering move with Lester acquisition[/h]
This is an earthquake. For the Cubs. For the NL Central. For baseball.
Free-agent left-hander Jon Lester?s six-year, $155 million agreementwith the Cubs is that big of a deal, that much of a game-changer, that much of an example of the ground shifting under everyone?s feet.
The waiting is over. The Cubs are back. Wrigley Field is alive. Lester, manager Joe Maddon and Co. are not simply going to aim for 2017 and wait for some of the game?s top offensive prospects to develop. No, the Cubs are going for it, and they?re going for it now.
Rest assured, this will not be the Cubs? last move. They?ve been talking to some of Lester?s former Red Sox teammates, free agents such as catcherDavid Ross and outfielder Jonny Gomes. And they?ve got the prospect power to acquire more pitching (Johnny Cueto? Jordan Zimmermann?Aroldis Chapman?) or a big bat (oh, what the heck, Troy Tulowitzki?).
It?s too early to say that the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry again will define the Central, not with the Pirates coming off two straight postseason appearances and reaching agreement Tuesday with free-agent left-handerFrancisco Liriano on a three-year, $39 contract. But, as Joel Sherman noted on MLB Network Tuesday night, it will be interesting to see how theReds react.

No, not all of the youngsters will become stars; the game does not work that way. But remember, we have yet to see Kris Bryant, the Cubs? uber-prospect at third base. And the Cubs have improved not just with Lester, but also with the signing of free-agent right-hander Jason Hammel and trade for catcher Miguel Montero.The Reds are drawing major interest in Cueto and Chapman, according to major-league sources. They are trying to steer the teams calling on Cueto to their other starters entering their free-agent years ? righties Mat Latos, Mike Leake and Alfredo Simon. But the return for Cueto could be massive, and it?s probably time for the Reds to restock rather than try to compete against the coming Cubs monster.

Of course, Cubs fans being Cubs fans, they?re probably thinking: Something will go wrong. Something will always go wrong. Well, sorry. Lester and Cubs executives Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein already helped end one curse. They?re not going to be cowed by another.
Four prominent teams wanted Lester, who is represented by Seth and Sam Levinson - wanted him not just for his pitching dominance, but also for his presence and character. Six years is too long for any pitcher, particularly one who will turn 31 on Jan. 7. But a trainer with a rival major-league club said that Lester is as low-risk as they come, given his delivery and powerful build.
So, here we go.
Winning a World Series requires luck as well as skill, and there certainly is no guarantee that this group will be lucky enough to pull off the Cubs? first World Series title since 1908. But at least now Wrigley will be rocking next summer. And when Wrigley is rocking, even for Cardinals fans, baseball is a better place.
It?s an earthquake, all right. Six years, $155 million on the Richter scale.

Red Sox have acquired Wade Miley from the Dbacks in exchange for Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa and a minor league.

Dodgers send Dee Gordon and Dan Haren to the Marlins in exchange for Andrew Heaney and prospects.

Ventura, Ca.
Dodgers basically traded One half flash Gordon for Howie Kendricks straight up. Personally I think that is a steal.

LOL!!! :mj07::mj07::mj07:

Looks like Ricketts have the gun to Theo & his boys' heads!!

They are in the right division this year with Reds packing it in already and Pirates losing some leadership!

Could be that year the Cubs actually do something. Baez & Soler will get every benefit of the doubt in Spring training to make the club and they are capable run producers, but the majors scouting staffs will pin point those two weak points quickly. It will take more than pitching for Cubs but I will never say never to what they're trying to do and on paper, they are pretty close to a wild card club right now.

Cubs are not done yet. Still some other free-agents out there.

MAX factor has yet to sign with anyone, his fokken agent, wants 30 mil per year!! :mj07:

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM, the three-team Wil Myers trade is "done."

Bowden has the breakdown of who's heading where: Padres shortstop prospect Trea Turner and top pitching prospect Joe Ross will go to the Nationals. Myers, Ryan Hanigan, and minor league pitchers Jose Castillo and Gerardo Reyes will go to the Padres. Steven Souza, Travis Ott, Rene Rivera, Burch Smith, and Jake Bauers will go to the Rays (with Ott and Souza coming from the Nats). All the players involved need to pass physicals before the trade can be made official.
