Not a big NFL player and I usually do not play much until the playoffs, but I am going to do something different this year. I play teasers in the NFL. I know there are many who hate them, but I have had success over many years with them. I tend to focus on dogs where I can get over key numbers and I will open them up quickly if I like a number. I am going to post one a week and see how it goes.

Week 1 - 4 team 7 pointer (+200)

GB+10
Atl+10.5
Jax+10.5
Giants +14.5

I opened this up a couple days ago with Atl and Jax, added Giants today and still waiting to see if the Bears go to 3.5. I do not think it will happen but I see no harm in waiting for now (I will edit if it changes).

Be sure to read your books rules on teasers!! You should only be playing numbers off the half with books that do not count ties as a loss.

Good start, but I have to say that the TX high school game on ESPN2 was much better than that game last night!

GL. After watching that terrible Thursday Night game I really have no idea of who to wager on Sunday. IF Al Michaels is right, and teams refused to play their starters, anything can happen.

Wrong about a lot in week 1, but first week is always a week to learn and I am ready to move on to week two.

Going with another 4-team 7 point teaser (+200)

Houston -1.5
Bengals +
Jets +
Giants +

Opened this up with Houston and have yet to fill the other 3. The Bengals number (+6) is not ideal for now, so I will wait to see if it goes to a Pk, but I think they win this game and should be favored by at least 3. I will be using Houston in a few teasers and in my suicide pools. Jax is in trouble with a rookie QB who is not very good. Houston proved last night that they are a good team. I will gladly take the Jets and the Giants at home getting more than a TD (will see if either happens to get to 3). What did Buffalo do to be a road favorite? Giants moved the ball, just had too many mistakes. I love the fact that the public's new favorite team laid an egg at home against the Titans. Mayfield excelled at the end of last season against some teams that were done, much different to start the season without an offensive line. Jets will come after him big time and I think they will win the game.

Likely will do a ML parlay with Giants/Jets/Bengals.

I am glad I only locked in Houston as I am making some changes. First, definitely taking the Jets out. Not that I loved Darnold anyway, but now way I am putting money on Trevor Siemian. Second, I am adding the Steelers now that I can get +3. Third, I am adding Carolina as I am now liking them more and more tonight.

Houston -1.5
Bengals +5
Steelers +3
Panthers Ev

All locked in. Not the typical teaser for me as I do not go across zero that often, but I think the Bengals and the Steelers with their home games and I do not see the lines getting more favorable.

The NFL blows. I thought it would be a good idea to try to post during the season but I am done until the playoffs. I am not a big fan anyway and these terrible games just reconfirm that this product just continues to go downhill. The NFL created this mess and I am not sure how they will get out of it.

Coming back for a play this week.

Pitt +3.5

I get that Big Ben is not playing, but I really do not get this line. All the Ravens have done is beat the two worst defensive teams in the League, lost to the third worst defense in a game that really was not close and then get a beat down at home by an average Browns team and now they are favored on the road. I am not buying it. Yes, the Steeler offense is not explosive which will help the Ravens defense, but the Ravens are getting way too much credit here. I think this is a tight game and I will gladly take the home team with the 3 and a hook.

I do not watch much NFL football anymore, but I am watching this Ravens game with my Dad and I have to say the officiating is absolutely horrendous in this game. Walt Anderson and his crew are a total disgrace to the game. Not sure how anyone at the NFL can watch this and not think there is something wrong with the game. They have even called two offsides calls on the defense that were not penalties!! And now they just screwed up a big interception review. Sorry, but the NFL is now a very, very flawed product.

And at least two more screw ups. It is the worst I have ever seen. Even the tv analysts say they suck. Walt Andersen and his crew of geriatrics all need to be set out to pasture. It is beyond bad.

Next Week

Seattle -3 -130

I played this as soon as I could and rather big. While I do not think Seattle is a great 5-1 team, I do think the Ravens are very overrated and not a very good 4-2 team. They have beaten Miami, Arizona, Cincy and Pitt!! This line is low considering the Ravens have not beaten a team with a winning record (KC is the only team they have played with a winning record!).

The Ravens are having trouble rushing the passer and have injuries in the secondary. Humphries is great, but that is all they have so good throwing teams are avoiding him and throwing it all over the rest of the secondary. I expect Wilson to have a field day against them and hit more than a few long passes. Yes, the Ravens move the ball but they are becoming very one dimensional as they can not throw the ball down field. Also, their offensive stats are also skewed by the weak defenses they have played. Just need to watch tape of how Cleveland defended them. Their WRs rarely catch the ball and everything goes through the TEs making them easier to defend in the secondary. This game likely will be high scoring, but I do not think the Ravens have the defense to keep up, so I will gladly lay the small number at home.

Line is now 3.5 and -170. Have a few open parlays to fill and may be taking Seattle. Think line will go up or down? Was surprised Jackson ran 19 times last game.

I think it can only go up. If you dig into the Ravens defensive performances I see no way Wilson does not go off. The trade is a good read on how bad they need to improve their pass defense. I think the Ravens will move the ball, but too many big plays by Seattle will doom them.

Yeah, sorry about this one. The Ravens played more or less like I thought they would. Seattle is just a bad 5-1, now 5-2, team. The Ravens were not good at all in the first half and Seattle just could not do anything. Jackson was great running the ball and the two defensive TDs were killer, especially the pick 6. Gotta hand it to the Ravens as I really thought they would lose this one. Now they get a week off with the Patriots coming to town afterwards for a Sunday night game.

Had a huge weekend in college so I will make a bet in the No Fun League today:

Ravens -6 - Yes, I said in Jack's thread last week that this is the ideal spot for a Ravens let down after beating the 49ers at home and that is what I believed at the time. BUT, the Patriots then loss opening up the chance for the #1 seed, so I think there is some extra motivation. Plus, and more importantly, I just do not believe the Bills are that good. Look at their wins: Jets, Giants, Bengals, Dolphins (2), Redskins and Broncos! Only wins against TN and DAL are decent but they are not elite teams either. Their run defense is not very good and they are facing the best running team in the NFL. Their offense is not dynamic and Allen struggles against the blitz, and the Ravens blitz more than anyone. In my opinion, this is not a good match up for the Bills. If the Ravens show, which I think they will, they easily win by a TD.

The NFL might as well convert to flag football. I can not tell you how much I hate the fact that they have taken the physical nature of the game out of the game. The ONLY reason the Bills are in this game is because of 15 yard pussy penalties. I know I am old school but the NFL has really turned into a shit product. The officiating is so bad it is simply embarrassing. Seriously, this game could not have been called more for the Bills way and now a 4th and 16 bailout where the WR flops. This is why betting the NFL is a joke.

I pray the Ravens see the Bills again in the playoffs as they will absolutely destroy them.

I do not bet much NFL regular season, but I do like the playoffs and usually do rather well. I try not to overthink and just keep it simple. QBs and coaching matter in the playoffs.

NWE -4 -120 - Enough of the TN love. This game is simple for me, Tannehill or Brady? I do not care if Brady is 50, I will take him at home against TN and Tannehill each and every game. Belicheck will stop the run and force Tannehill to beat them. NWE's defense wins them this game.

Philly +2 - Everytime I watch Seattle I wonder how they win so many games. They can not really run the ball or block for Wilson. Now, I do not think Philly is that great, but I do not see them turing it over 5 times like they did the last time against Seattle and they play defense. Plus, and very importantly, everyone thinks Seattle wins this game. Tons of stats support the home dog and Philly in this situation. I will take the underdog and hope Carroll makes some more bonehead decisions for Seattle.

Teaser (3-team 7 pointer)

Bills+9.5 - too much defense
Saints -1 - do not see them losing at home
Eagles +9

Made my Super Bowl play today:

SF +105

Simple for me, I will always take defense over offense, always, especially when the other team's defense is suspect. SF really reminds me of a Raven-type Super Bowl team that will not make mistakes and do enough on offense to win, but will rely on their defense. Ravens won with Dilfer and Flacco! Can Mahomes win this on his own, maybe, but I think he will be running for his life for a lot of the game. I like SF to win and played it on the ML.
