I believe their 3's kept them in the game. They hit 15-37 (40.5%). The problem was, they were 7-25 (28%) inside the arc.

In the college game today you cannot shoot 37 shots from outside the arc and expect to lose. Look at every single game that Duke has lost and the reason they lost? Points in the paint... They fall in love with the 3 pt shot.

Duke wins when they shoot about 20 3's a game and then have 20 points in the paint of so... The 3 did not keep them in the game it cost them the game.

4 points in the paint today, shooting too many 3's , not utilizing the 7 ft center, not giving Murphy playing time causing him to transfer, changing point guards half way into the season, playing seniors Thornton and Hairston over younger players with higher ceilings, changing the whole team substitution pattern that was hugely successful after the Clemson loss, forcing the team to play pressure defense when they cannot keep guards out of the lane, not trying zone defense.... These are just a few of the terrible coaching decisions made by Duke. Coach K had a terrible year coaching. Of course losing his brother is what he will remember the most which keeps it all in prospective.
Congrats to Mercer. The better team today . Nice to see seniors getting rewarded for staying with a program.
