florida and baltimore lineups:

Here's the Marlins' lineup, for those of you scoring at work:

Hanley Ramirez - SS

Dan Uggla - 2B

Miguel Cabrera - 3B

Josh Willingham - LF

Aaron Boone - 1B

Cody Ross - RF

Miguel Olivo - C

Joe Borchard - DH

Alex Sanchez - CF

Wes Obermueller - P

I believe my grandfather drove an old Obermueller.

The Orioles have Steve Trachsel on a 35-40 pitch count.

That shouldn't take more than two hours. Three, tops.

Manager Sam Perlozzo spoke with head trainer Richie Bancells earlier today to get a report on pitcher Kris Benson's rehab.

"Richie said he was definitely showing some strength increases, and that's what we're trying to get to," Perlozzo said. "It's moving forward, but we're still in the early stages."

Brian Roberts - 2B

Melvin Mora - 3B

Nick Markakis - RF

Jay Gibbons - 1B

Kevin Millar - DH

Corey Patterson - CF

Chris Gomez - SS

Jeff Fiorentino - LF

Eli Whiteside - C

Steve Trachsel - P

The Cubs will start this lineup in their Cactus League opener today against the San Francisco Giants and left-hander Barry Zito:

CF Alfonso Soriano
LF Matt Murton
1B Derrek Lee
3B Aramis Ramirez
C Michael Barrett
RF Jacque Jones
2B Mark DeRosa
SS Cesar Izturis
RHP Jason Marquis

In the bullpen: LH Les Walrond, RH John Webb, LH Carmen Pignatiello, RH Ben Howard, RH Rocky Cherry, RH Randy Wells and RH Jason Anderson.

CUBS AGENDA
Here are five things the Cubs want to get done during the 32-game Cactus League schedule that opens today:

Keep Mark Prior healthy and have him ready for the season-opening rotation. The injury-plagued right-hander has opened each of the last three seasons on the disabled list. If he can reverse that trend, he'll claim the final spot in the rotation -- barring surprises or injuries to others.

Choose a long reliever for the final spot in the bullpen. Right-handers Michael Wuertz and Roberto Novoa looked like the front-runners entering camp, but Wuertz's sore shoulder might set him back. Left-hander Neal Cotts, who is a lock for the bullpen, is being stretched out this spring and might become that guy. And then there's Wade Miller, a veteran starter with a guaranteed contract who's coming off a shoulder injury. If he's healthy enough to open the season but has nowhere to go in the rotation, there's an outside chance he might open in the pen.

Assemble a bench. The Cubs have four outfielders locked in and their backup catcher in place, leaving three openings. Angel Pagan has the inside track on the last outfield job, and Daryle Ward is likely in as a backup first baseman and pinch hitter. That would leave a utility infield job for Ronny Cedeno, Tomas Perez or Ryan Theriot.

Create an Opening Day center fielder. The first shot goes to Alfonso Soriano (below), the $136 million newcomer with only one year of outfield experience -- in left. Jacque Jones, the most experienced center fielder of the four regulars, is the second option. Center figures to have a huge bearing on the corner rotation and an even bigger bearing on whether the ivy catches more fly balls than the fielders.

Throw the ball over the stinking plate. Cubs pitchers set a franchise record with 687 walks last season, and manager Lou Piniella has made that a focus this spring. Folded into that philosophy is throwing fewer pitches per at-bat, even if it means a lot more contact. ''Not too many good things can come with long counts,'' Piniella said.

Let the games begin: The Giants open the Cactus League today with Barry Zito facing the Cubs in Mesa, Ariz., but with Barry Bonds, Ray Durham, Rich Aurilia and Armando Benitez staying in Scottsdale. Manager Bruce Bochy wants to debut Bonds and Durham at home Friday against Milwaukee, and Aurilia caught the flu that has hit camp.

Bochy said the staff has not scheduled Benitez's first appearance. Early in camp, Benitez said he was not in a hurry to pitch competitively because he wanted to get closer to 100 percent physically after rehabilitating his right knee over the past six months.

"He's real close," said Bochy, who has no shortage of pitchers to take Benitez's innings to help settle what will be the fiercest competition. Eleven pitchers -- Benitez, Brian Wilson, Steve Kline, Jack Taschner, Jonathan Sanchez (if he does not win a starting job), Kevin Correia, Scott Munter, Brad Hennessey, Vinnie Chulk, 25-year-old prospect Billy Sadler and nonroster invitee David Cortes -- appear to have a legitimate shot for seven jobs.

Benitez is a wild card. If he is traded or his knee betrays him again, the bullpen calculus would change considerably. The front office will have some tough calls to make, with or without Benitez, which means the candidates must impress early.

"Obviously, Kline and Benitez are in a different boat than the rest of us. They're the guaranteed-contract guys," Taschner said. "Benitez has his own stuff to deal with, with the injuries and stuff. Basically, for the other five spots, there are 10 of us going for it. If anyone here thinks they have one locked up, they're faulting themselves.''

Briefly: Starters Matt Morris and Lowry also ran into the flu bug that caught Aurilia. ... The Giants are holding another Fan Fest at China Basin on Saturday at which 2007 single-game tickets will go on sale. In a unique promotion, fans can trade Zito A's merchandise for tickets to a Bay Bridge exhibition game against Oakland.
