there are enough smart guys in this thread alone to run our country.
Do any of you already serve your county,district, city or state in some leadership role?
If not, I would sure hope you would think about it.
We are going to hell in a handbag fellas and it's going to take some folks who can sit down and hammer out some sound leadership for our nation.
Politics be damned...how about just a few folks with a friggin' clue as to where this country is headed.

It was meant to state that we need a leader (not a politician) who will do what is best for this country not what is popular or what is best for big business.
As I've said in the past and I will say now and in the future, the greatest crisis facing this country is campaign finance reform. Real campaign finance reform. Our Congress looks like the Roman Senate circa 450 AD. Corruption is rampant. Boehner passing out tobacco lobby money on the floor of the House. Legal maybe. Disgusting and tolerated by the public.
I'm not picking on the new Nazi party only. The totally ineffective wimp party is just as bad. Thats what I meant about a Lincoln. I used to like McCain until I saw his latest cave to the Christian right. Made me wanna puke. Problem is thats what it takes to get elected in this country. Dumb electorate. Swayed by $$$$$$$ and fancy ads invoking God, morals etc.

Congress trying to pass something like this into law is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to protect and win some patriotic type votes in the upcoming election. They have completely wasted taxpayers money for the last four to six years depending on who you are talking about.
Please tell me you don't honestly believe that this "law" would have ANY affect on anyone? What will it do? Do you know how much was spent in tax dollars in order to get this bill into congress. Do you not find it strange that all these "well meaning, suddenly patriotic" lawmakers, didn't find this to be necessary as soon as they took office? Funny how now a "politically popular" bill is brought before us for a vote by who? Republican party. Democrats shot it down as they should have. At least they had the nuts to say it was ridiculous knowing full well that it would put them directly in the line of fire of the right wing radicals that think all of us Dems want to burn flags and have lunch with Bin Laden. Let me assure you that there are far more pressing issues before government these days than this. Besides, ask yourself what a law like this would create. I spent more than five years in the Marine Corps and there are very few that can match my patriotism or love for the country that I was born in. But Patriotism doesn't consist of yelling "speak English Mother F'er" to someone that we accepted into our borders that came here to pursue the very dream that our forefathers had. Nor is it buying an American Flag one piece swimsuit. Or putting the flag out front on flag day. Each and every one of us prioritizes things differently and before you go bashing someone for pointing that out maybe we should all ask ourselves what we have done for the country lately except pay taxes. I guarantee none of you see the fervor in which we supported democracy after 9/11 anymore. Alex Rodriguez spurned his country of origin to play for the US in the World Baseball games. That is representing your country, now how many of you have told someone that you are Irish, or German, or Puerto Rican when asked lately? Did any of you say I was born a United States National? Or even American? Hell Canadians are American, so are Mexicans and Peruvians and on and on and on.
In closing, quit confusing patriotism with trying to send a message to the outside world and illegal immigrants. They can't read english anyway so the don't know what patriotism is. For all they know you could be trying to sell them cantaloupe.
