49ers

if you do like san francisco then i suggest you place an early wager.......this line will more than likely be higher than 3 by gametime.....i am taking a pass on this game unless the public goes a little TOO crazy on the 49ers.......whatever you decide....best of luck!

in the pshycology of the sports book any other line and too many people would be taking SF. They figure they keep it at -3 and the public will think the Giants have a chance.

No chance here . Niners are not losing this easy game for them. Not with Garcia. SF wins by 14.

This game will be a good barometer to determine how much losing defensive coordinator Fox will affect the Giants. In his 5 year tenure there, he helped take them to the Super Bowl, set up great schemes, and kept them focused.

I'm trying to see what to do on this game as well - all i hear
is SF SF SF...

Does anybody give any merit that "they" may want NY to win this
for the 9/11 memorial? Same thing came up last year I believe and Jets still lost. Of course maybe if 49ers are covering in the 4th - they'll be a "traffic accident" and lose power ;)

When everyone see's it as being so easy I get scared

Sort of like the damn Lville game...ouch black to red on that one...

That's why they play the game... This game will be electric anyway (aside from the point spread issues). The first NFL game of the year.. and only one... puts so much interest in this game.

If it were not for home field advantage, the Giants would be a 7 point dog.

The 9/11 angle can be ignored. Stuff like that is just BS. There is NO reason why every team shouldn't be fired up this week. It's Week 1, everyone has had 7 months off and is raring to go, and everybody is tied for 1st place. This can't be an overlook game for anybody, espeically when it's opening night, the only game of the night and has a national audience. 9/11 won't be extra motivation for anyone. Besides, the game is on 9/5.

Last year 2 of 3 teams from the cities involved lost in their first home game after 9/11 (Wash, NYG, NYJ). And there were a TON of people saying "Don't go against them!!!!".

Reprint from "Matchups Forum"

Everyone (who bet the Giants) expects the Giants to be totally emotional and steamroll the 49ers.

However, most people forgot that the 49ers played at NYC against the Jets (Monday night) the first week of NFL football after Sept 11 last year. There was much more emotion then.
The 49ers beat the Jets 19-17.

http://scores.nfl.com/scores/2001/week3/gamecenter/NFL_20011001_SF@NYJ.htm

Steve Mariucci, his San Francisco counterpart, expressed gratitude that the 49ers will participate.

"We feel kind of privileged and honored to be in it," he said. "We were in New York, on Monday night against the Jets, after Sept. 11. It was a very emotional and patriotic evening for all of us, and we anticipate it being a little like that."

The matchup would be attractive under any circumstances. San Francisco returns virtually intact from a 12-4 record that brought its first playoff appearance since the 1998 season. New York closed 7-9 but is only two years removed from the Super Bowl.

The 49ers suspect they may be powerful enough to reach the title game for the first time since 1994.

There no doubt will be emotion on the field, but it will be for both teams. Yes, the crowd will be screaming and gives some edge to the Giants, but after the first couple of plays the players for the most part tune out the noise and are concentrating on the game. Mariucci will have San Fran ready for emotion in the beginning and tell the team to weather the first couple plays.

I hit San Fran at -3 for 2 units and will hit them again at -3.5 right before game time. I think all this stuff about 9/11 don't bet against New York teams will have the public betting on the Giants and I hope the line drops to -3. If it doesn't drop will still hit it for another unit. IF and this is a big IF goes under -3 to maybe -2.5 will add 3 more units.

I am in for 2 units now on the better overall, deeper team. Don't be suprised if San Fran's defense really shows up... I played a prop 2 weeks ago for San FRan to win nfc championship and superbowl.....Maybe a stretch but it is some big cash if it comes in..

Good luck to all players tonight and I hope the national anthem means a little more to people now...

I agree in all aspects about SF. I do not see the Giants being able to hang with the 49ers. 49er's have an improved defense and a very solid offense that will be hard for the Giants to match up with in this game. Great point brought up about the loss of Giants Def. Coordinator.

I think the public will be all over the 49ers tonight which might make the Giants a Goldman Experiment play on Nolan's page. I totally agree with the concept of fading the general "loser" casual bettor. The line has already increased from 2.5 to 3.5 and even though the 49ers look like the play on paper, I would either pass or play the Giants plus 3.5 or more to fade the public. I have a feeling the 49ers will cover by a FG giving most 49er backers a loss since only very early players bet the game at 49ers -2.5.

Just my thoughts as I think the 49ers stand out as one that looked to easy ... especially at the opening line of -2.5.

Lightning,
Great to see you posting your comments again! For what it is worth I am in total agreement with you and I think the money will continue to pour in on the 49ers up until kickoff. Carib currently has the line up to 4 and we may still see some more movement prior to kickoff. If your play is on the Giants you may want to wait. Good Luck $$$$

I agree. Took this game 3 weeks ago at 2.5 looks like a gift now, though it wouldnt be unreasonable to buy the hook or full point back down to 2.5, though it looks like 4 is a popular number now.
