-Reuter seems to be headed towards a down cycle for San Francisco after losing last game following a good winning streak. Helling has been totally unreliable for the D-Backs. Rodriguez should be unavailable for the Giants.

-Padres have outhit Colorado in all three games of this series. Jones comes off the DL and he has turned himself around this year. Neagle could be an injury issue afer leaving the last game after being hit with a line drive in the knee. Padres will be without Nevin, who suffered a shoulder injury yesterday.

-Haynes has a long outing last time for Cincy and now moves up in the rotation because of a day off. Olsen was decent last time out, with 5 hits in 5 innings and a good k/bb ratio. Cincy has dominated Florida this year overall.

-Big pitching mismatch in Cleveland with Sabathia finally looking sharp and Greisinger probably entering a down cycle.

-Erickson should rebound with five days of rest since a poor outing but Baltimore may have bullpen issues after using three key guys last night. Though Seattle broke out for 10 hits yesterday, Boone, Cameron and Olerud continue to struggle as they went a combined 1 for 10.

-You'd think Oakland would be a great play today but Hudson has just been inexplicably off since the start of May. Wilson got rocked by Oakland last time out as well. A's are scoring runs, with 5 or more in 5 straight.

-Marquis has to be a real worry for Atlanta as he really has struggled the second and third time through the lineup. To add insult to injury, he was beaned in the foot in batting practice yesterday. Chipper is still out of the lineup, but he could be available to pinch hit. Montreal is just one back of Atlanta in the loss column.

-Radke comes off the DL but he better go nine because the Twins bullpen was used way too much yesterday. Schoenweis looked terrible in his last start, but he has had seven days to rest. Angels have scored 4+ runs in 8 of 10 while Minnesota has scored 5+ runs in 7 of 8.

thanks for the notes Nick, helps me a lot if i have taken a couple of days off from wagering--anyway, guess we'll see how long radke goes, but manager says he's on pitch count as well--

Rick Reed was the Twins' scheduled starter Wednesday. He came up with a stiff neck Tuesday, so the Twins told Matt Kinney to be ready to start. Reed arrived at the ballpark Wednesday and told manager Ron Gardenhire he could pitch.

"The starter is telling you he's fine, and then it doesn't work out," Gardenhire said. "He was out there falling off the mound in the second inning and I said to Andy [pitching coach Rick Anderson], 'Something's not right here.'

"We go out there and he has a bad headache. Staying in the game wasn't an issue. He was in pain."

Reed left with one out in the second inning and the Twins leading 4-1. Kinney replaced him and gave up a two-run homer on his first pitch. That started a comeback that resulted in a 9-8 Rangers victory.

Reed's decision to pitch backfired. The Twins had to use Kinney and four regular members of the bullpen: Bob Wells, LaTroy Hawkins, Mike Jackson and J.C. Romero.

"Now, Brad Radke is going to pitch for us [tonight], and he's coming off the DL," Gardenhire said. "He'll be on a pitch count. We probably won't get more than five out of him, and we'll be back in the bullpen again."

Gardenhire said Reed pitched because, "He told me he wanted the ball."

Reed said: "Maybe I should have bumped this one, but I wanted to give it a try. I have a severe headache. I had this thing last year. It lasted a couple of days."

Phil Nevin has a broken left arm and is expected to be out for six weeks.
More bad news for the Padres. Nevin probably won't be back until the All-Star break. Sean Burroughs won't be eligible to return for two weeks. .
