One update. The best odds I could find was in an account I didn't have much cash in, so that KC play is actually...

Kansas City +285 over YANKEES 98/279

Reasoning here is that KC is playing some very good ball with two straight wins and three competitive losses that easily could have been wins against Minny in their last 5. Yanks got a bit lucky to salvage the split in Anahiem and their bullpen is still suspect. Plus Clemens is a bit of an unknown quantity. How many 40 year olds come back from injury with their best stuff? I know Clemens is special, but he's also human.

The Cleveland game goes a lot on what I said yesterday about my feeling that the Rays are a team set up for a slide. They are 14-39 on the road, their bullpen is very thin as Alvarez is not available tonight and Cleveland is hitting pretty good. Rays also have not had great success against lefties.

One last comment is about something gsp wrote in RAYMOND's thread yesterday. People were talking about the ethics of posting service plays shortly after the games start (I think it basically is advertising) and gsp said the important thing was not whether he posted them, but to go back and find out why the big Mets play was such an easy winner.

I think gsp is right. I think at least one reason why the Mets were so strong was because of Astacio. When I was in New York back in May I had the chance to go to a Mets game vs. my beloved Brewers and Astacio no-hit us through seven and generally dominated the game. In addition, the Mets are in a race while the Brewers are not and Sheets has been hit hard recently.

Major props to Ray for identifying this and a major "what the hell" to myself for completely missing it. GL to you all today.

Hey Nick:

Are you really a brew-crew fan or were you being sarcastic?? Because I have been born and raised on the crew and have felt their pain the last 20 years or so...

Nick-
Nice work yesterday on the Tribe. I know I told you to be careful. I wasn't aware of a stiff breeze blowing in or I wouldn't have picked the Over. Nagy really surprised me.
Anyway, I do think the Tribe will win tonight. Sabathia scares me, though. He's carrying about 50 xtra pounds and seems to lose it in the fifth or sixth. Hopefully, Skinner has realized this and will pull him early if they are up. Tribe bullpen has been solid of late and should hold the lead if Sabathia leaves with one.

I grew up in Wisconsin so, yes, I love the Brewers. Not much of a Packers fan but I love the Bucks as well.

You know what's funny is that I still watch ESPN Classic and NBA TV and root for the Bucks and Brewers in games from fifteen or twenty years ago. Like they showed the '87 Eastern Semis when the Bucks lost that heartbreaker in 7 at Boston Garden a few weeks ago and I was sitting there pounding the arm of my couch when TC would make turnovers. And Willie McGee, don't even get me started.

As far as Sabathia goes, I know that is a risk. I feel that the D-Rays troubles with lefties should be enough for him. We'll see. GL to you both.

Nick,

Just curious: Have you ever seen game 7 of the 1982 world series on the classic channel? I was born in Milwaukee and was 11 years old when the Brewers beat Rod Carew's Angels to play St. Louis in the world series. That city was in a frenzy, and after beating STL 10-0 I think in game 1 things were looking great. Unfortunately it went 7 and you know the rest. However when game 7 came on the classic channel a few months ago I quickly called my dad and told him about it. It was great as for 3 hours it reminded me of being a kid again. Harvey's wallbangers: Cecil Cooper, Ben Oglive, Gorman Thomas, etc and of course the great Molitor and Yount. Ah the memories..

I remember watching that game on classic sports...unfortunately for me..I was only 2 when the Crew went to the World Series..:( :( :( ...but i can imagine how much of a frenzy this town must have been. The last time I can recall such excitement around this city is when the Bucks were one game away from the finals in 2001 (which personally, I feel were a better team then the sixers..but then the refs thought otherwsie..and you guys know the ending)

Speaking of the bucks...what do u guys think bout the big dog trade? I was pissed as all hell..  ..but i figure grunfeld was looking to deal him and he got the best he could. I still think if big dog didnt get in trouble with the law..we could have had a fair shot at Spree...now that would have been a lineup!

:D :D :D ...ahhh..what could have been!!

I was 5 when the Brew Crew went. I remember the huge series win over Baltimore to clinch the division, the big 0-2 comeback vs. Reggie's Angels and of course, Mike Calwell's game 1 shutout. But damn Willie McGee. Robbed yount of a homer and then steals second and third before getting thrown out at home by Sutton while trying to steal again.

That was also back in the day when you could come into County Stadium for the last couple innings of a game. I remember Uecker used to tell fans during radio broadcasts to come on down for the last couple innings if it was a tight game. Imagine a team doing that these days. Really if you think about it it's not a bad idea. Sell a few extra concessions and I am sure the number of people who would have gone to games but instead decided to just come by for the 8th or 9th inning are minimal.

As for the Bucks I am hoping the trade works out but I loved Big Dog. I thought he did a very good job defensively in 2001 but last year he regressed. I am expecting an Eastern Conference championship but who knows.

And to Mike, glad to hear we are on the same side today. Looking at your thread actually made me think maybe I would have gone with the runline on CLE. We'll see. GL.

Loved listening to Uecker on the radio while we played wiffle ball out in the backyard. Watching that game7 there was a part in the Brewers' last at bats in the 9th where one of the STL infielders said something to Gantner and had a huge smirky grin on his face. Well whatever Gantner said back to him mustv'e been pretty nasty as this infielder's expression went from a smirky grin to an evil glare in about a half second. I know its a dumb thing to bring up but it was one of those things about that game I would never remember as a kid but thought it was hilarious now. But as long as STL won I guess he got the last laugh, but his expression changing alone made that game worth it to re-watch.

GL on your plays tonite. I actually put $25 on KC last nite at +278 thinking the line would go down and now I see it is at +292. Oh well.
