I apologize. I'm probably the worst writer in the entire forum and post very infrequently because of it. Again, my apology.

Auspice, I always enjoy reading your posts and I never gave a thought that they were poorly written. You are a good poster. Now as for that other stuff I wondered why it was so hard finding a job!

Thanks StevieD

But I am a bad writer. I have to 'craft' my responses and it takes a lot of rewrites to get it to what I want to say. I'm always so jealous of anybody that can coherently write without having to edit a gazillion times. And I'm not a great poster. I know that. I'm just some guy adding a few words now and again.

Is it going to be croweded in Boston this week? It's got to be a zoo. hang in there

Auspice, I wouldn't be surprised if Bush carries Boston after the mess this convention is causing. We have a Mayor who is a democrat but seriously has a gene missing in his head or something. People miles away from the convention site, in different towns, are not able to get to work. This is truly going to be a first class cluster f&&k.
We are all just regular guys posting in here. That is what makes it so great.

1st to answer your question on feeling safer, I think there could be a strike at any time as it is impossible to stop it in a free society where where people from all over the world can come.
--but i can not understand how some can think the cutting of funding and capture and killing of thousands of terrorist that were allowed to previously run unabated and and joining of numerous other countries I'll not go into again makes it easier for them--evidently some do.

Yes I am for defence spending.If not for our superiority who knows what outcome of 1st and 2nd world wars would be. If you don't think its a deterent for other's with nuclear capabilties think again. If you don't think they were in awe of the short time it took to occupy 2 countries your mistaken.
If you don't think North Korea is waiting for elections in hopes Bush is out for further negotiations your also mistaken.
They want some more of the liberal ways.
Like last administration who cut defence spending and put our tax dollars to better use eg ---taking North Korea from 0 dollars in aid to being the No. 1 recipient of U.S. foreign aid in the Asia-Pacific region. In Geneva, Oct. 21, 1994, that the Clinton-Gore Administration agreed to give U.S. nuclear technology and huge amounts of heavy fuel oil to the North Korean government.
They really know how to protect the U.S.--give the enemy aid and technology so they can spend their entire GNP on weapons to use and bribe us with. That really made the world safer--correct?

per your question
"so I've got a question Dogs, would you and me and all the school kids and people that work in high rise office buildings be safer under a president that recognizes we're doing nothing at home and attempts to correct the situation, or a president that tells the state governors that they're 'on their own' in financing and administering the huge problem as Bush has done?"

How many pages would you like of changes that have been made "at home"????

"If entitlement programs are your only problem, please be advised that corporate entitlements far outweigh individual entitlements in our USA budget. Do you want to get rid of the
biased owned Republican corporate entitlements as well? If not, why not? "

I frankly do not understand the left stance against big business.
My way of thinking corporate entiltlements produce jobs so we won't need individual entitlements--somehow there are folks who prefer individual entitlements and no jobs.

I have heard Haliburton this and Carlyle group that for 3 years.and no doubt they favor conservative party.Halibuton employes over 85,000 people,Carlye group 70,000+ with 16 Billion in revenues.
They produce some of the highest paying jobs and pay huge tax base. Do you really have to ask who contributes more to welfare of this country they or people receiving individual entitlements.
I don't know how to put point accross small and big business create jobs-provide taxes--and from a liberal standpoint they are the scourge of the nation.
I have no prob with any corp contributing to either side--its a way of life.Where I draw the line is when foreign interest against us contribute to one side eg The chinese and last administration.

Just one of MANY findings from Washington Post.
http://www.apfn.org/apfn/riady_ties2.htm

and if you think that is smoke would you like list of chinese that were included in the 122 congressional witnesses who have pleaded the Fifth Amendment, fled the country to avoid
testifying, or (in the case of foreign witnesses) refused to be interviewed:

You have problem with President political party who has set recoed on spending despite 9-11 and 2 wars in 3 years.

I have problem with Pres and administration that set other records

* RECORDS SET

- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad

To each his own ;)

The way I see it the liberals are not the only ones hoping conservatives are voted out---you have the French-Chineses-N Korea--Terrorist ect---I wonder why???????

Loophole

Thanks for the link. But the 'system' talked about in the link is the landbased system that's now being constructed. 'Star Wars' was to my understanding, a system based in our atmosphere with the capability to intercept incoming. This project isn't anything that closely resembles the 'star wars' funded defense system. We got next to nothing out of that. If you reread the article, it doesn't say this is what became of the 'star wars' project. Only the idea of a landbased missle system, and that's because the other one failed to produce anything. Heck, if a orbiting atmospheric system doesn't work, the only thing left if landbased so I don't see the connection, but thanks for the link.

auspice, i believe the connection is that this is the only system that resulted from the whole star wars concept and resulting expenditures. the common element is, as you pointed out, the land-based detection and guidance systems that direct the land-based delivery system as opposed to an outer space delivery system.

Star Wars ended up costing alot for nothing. As for N Korea getting aid from the U S. For sure oil. That didn't just start with Clinton. And if anything other then nuclear war works with N Korea. I say the whole world wins. Cant understand all the hate still left over about Clinton. Anyone that helped create 22 million jobs is ok by me. Look at this Bush record it's terrible. Funny thing was republicans were investigating the Clinton family before the last vote was cast and he became president. That's what you call working together for the American people. All I say to that I'm glad they didn't start a 4 year run at Bush. I'm afraid he would look as bad and maybe even worse then Clinton.

DJV Show me where N Korea receive $1 in aid from U.S.before last administration.

"Cant understand all the hate still left over about Clinton."

Re-read "Records set" in prior post--then consider hate toward Bush--than sit down and think about it

Anyone that helped create 22 million jobs is ok by me."
You still believe "he" created 22 million jobs--maybe should should believe Bush is responsible for lowest interest rates and inflation following a recession inheirted from prior adminstration.I not biting on either.

" I'm afraid he would look as bad and maybe even worse then Clinton."

Could be I won't agrue about the future--but so far not many adminstration indictments or convictions--and white house officials are living much longer ;)

DTB, as you well know Greenspan caused the recession in part to help elect Bush. He said at the time he was raising interest rates that he had to slow down the economy. That was a crock. He raised rates to choke the market so that Gore couldn't run on the economy. Greenspan went too far, raising rates at least 4 times in a row. He tried to get control over the faltering economy by lowering rates as soon as his boy got in. Even with the artificially low rates he could not wake up the economy.

Unless it changed you know how it worked it the past. We gave it to SK who worked with NK. No trust there. So Believe we tighten it up and it still was not good enough. I don't care how they make it work to avoid the other result. As for those jobs of course Bill gets credit. That and paying off all Regan and Bush 41 deficit. When Bush does those things on his watch or they happen on his watch of course he will get credit.
On that NK thing I might be wrong it may have been handled by way of UN. But yes in the interest of peace we were pitching in.

dtb, can you cite some source of facts in support of the "records set" post you put up. i find many of them to be of dubious accuracy.

Any in particular Loop. I'll see what I can dig up.

Stevie I'll agree Greenspan played huge part to recession--but to get anyone elected I think is quite a stretch of the imagination. If that was the case why did he not do it after Clintons 1st term.
Why wait till end of 2nd term when most uninformed will blame it on next admistration as that is when full brunt hits?
I think Greenspan cuts was a by product of a false internet boom with companys having unreal price to earnings and never making a profit. Something had to give. Quite like the tulip fiasco in Holland many years ago. Unfortunately I can not say I was wise enough to short the market myself so I sure can't point a finger at others for being fool hearty.

only pres impeached for personal malfeasance - not sure what is meant by personal malfeasance, but andrew johnson comes to mind. obviously nixon resigned to avoid being impeached.

most convictions of friends and assoc. - johnson, the teapot dome scandal and all the nixon aides and watergate conspirators come to mind. not even close.

most number of cabinet level officials to come under investigation - again, not even close to teapot dome and watergate.

most no. of witnesses ... - what is meant by a witness? someone under subpoena? someone rumored to know something? too ambiguous to define.

first pres to be sued for sexual harassment - probably true, but the tort of sexual harassment has only been in place for the past few administrations. there certainly has been a boatload of presidents that could have been sued for sexual harassment under existing law.

first first lady to come under criminal investigation - true, to the best of my knowledge.

largest plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case - i'm not sure what this means - most pages, number of words? again remember, there's only been criminal laws about campaign contributions for the past few administrations. with all the bag men running around dc at the time, it's hard to believe the nixon years don't sweep these categories.

i doubt your going to be able to find empirical data to support any of these assertions - they all have that internet hyperbole ring to them.

Not sure about meaning of Malfeasance either--Could be possibilty of several 1st--obstruction of justice-perjury-ect
=======================================

most convictions of friends and assoc. - johnson, the teapot dome scandal and all the nixon aides and watergate conspirators come to mind. not even close.

According to uncorrelated archives there were 40 indictments and/or convictions during the Nixon administration, 31 during the Reagan administration.

clinton
Five cabinet members were indicted.
14 Clinton associations, including a governor, an associate attorney general and two business partners were convicted or plead guilty during the Starr-Ray investigation
47 individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton political machine were convicted or plead guilty to crimes. 33 of these during President Clinton?s tenure.
61 indictments for misdemeanor crimes
122 congressional witnesses who pled the fifth, fled the country or refused to be interviewed
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
most number of cabinet level officials to come under investigation - again, not even close to teapot dome and watergate.

# of cabinet members under investigation under Clinton was 5
What #s do you have of cabinet members on watergate and teapot?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
most no. of witnesses ... - what is meant by a witness? someone under subpoena? someone rumored to know something? too ambiguous to define.

Number of "congressional witnesses" who have pled the 5th Amendment, fled the country to avoid testifying, or (in the case of foreign witnesses) refused to be interviewed: 122
I can supply the names if you wish.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
largest plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case

As of June 2000, the Justice Department listed 25 people indicted and 19 convicted because of the 1996 Clinton-Gore fundraising scandals.
- According to the House Committee on Government Reform in September 2000, 79 House and Senate witnesses asserted the Fifth Amendment in the course of investigations into Gore's last fundraising campaign. [These figures are included in the larger figures elsewhere].
-James Riady entered a plea agreement to pay an $8.5 million fine for campaign finance crimes. This was a record under campaign finance laws.

The above data was from sources I found Loop.

Can't believe he don't hold record for most convicted felons pardoned> Wonder who beat him??--however I am quite sure he is only one to pardon one on 10 most wanted list.;)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Some additional #'s
