Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms. So this means as of Jan 1, your cell phone may start ringing off the hook with telemarketers, but unlike your home phone, most of you pay for your incoming calls. These telemarketes will eat up your
free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run. According to the National Do Not Call List, you have until Dec. 15, 2004 to get on the national "Do not call list" for cell phones. They said that you need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you wish to have put on the
"do not call list" to be put on the list. They also said you can do it online at http://www.donotcall.gov Registering only takes a minutes, is in effect for 5 years, and will possibley save you money (and definitely frustration). Make sure you reigster now

Just remember... don't answer calls from numbers you don't know, and tell people you know to leave a message so if they're calling from a different number you'll know it's them.

Take W's advice. The list law is going on 2 years and govt. has filed 1- that's O N E court complaint. Against AT&T. It should be in court as soon as 2010. However, the folks down in old DC now know where 73 million people are and how to reach them. But, if you have nothing to hide, so what.
It is frightening though, if you are a 500-1000 minute user. Chan, I believe there is a technology out therethat can crash dial all #s and save the ones tbat answer in any way.

Just trying to pass along what I considered helpful info. If things are really that 'bad' I'm sure posting on the Internet is another 'opportunity' for Big Brother. Damn, they already know I wanna refinance my house, I have a small p*nis and am looking for a cure, I desire to recieve E-Mails about bestiality, I'm willing to pay $ research my family tree, etc.

Exactly this 411 listing has nothing to do with it, but from what I understand if your cell number is not on the do not call list there is nothing stopping a telemarketer from calling your cell phone as long as a live person does it without an auto dialer.

A telemarketing firm is not likely to do business without an auto dialer since their business depends on making a high rate of calls per hour. I just don't see this being the big scare that everybody is making it out to be, esp. since most people I know don't answer unknown phone numbers and it's hard to find a cell phone provider that doesn't practically give you caller id.

I registered my cell numbers.
