The following information was posted on on another website today.....

There's something very important that you all need to do before the end of the day Thursday. If you have credit cards or debit cards - anything with a Visa, Master Card, or American Express logo (or any other companies, including Discover, Carte Blanche, etc), you need to call your credit card companies and banks now.........before June 1st!!!
The reason I'm posting this is that after that date, it becomes legal for all these companies to sell your private financial information out to others. Included in this information could be your account balances, your debits and credits (how much you are spending and what you are buying), who you buy from, your asset information, etc. While your credit history is already public information, this other information would end up being used to target market you - in other words, put you on anyone's mailing lists. I personally think this is a pretty underhanded thing to do (thanks to Congress for voting this in....notice that we're not hearing anything about this). This stuff should remain private.

Call these folks up and tell them that you want to "opt out" of them sharing or selling your information to outsiders. If you don't do this by June 1st, your privacy is essentially lost forever. I'm not trying to cause any alarm, I'm telling you all this because my father is the co-owner of an estate planning firm in Dallas, and he passed this information on to me. I enjoy talking with you all, and consider you guys my friends, and I want to help protect you. Nobody has a right to invade your privacy in this way, so I urge you all to act now.

Gee Jack, this has hoax all over this. First time poster, no reference to the site in question, and of the old man in Dallas is the capper.
On a serious note, Amazon has stated it considers all its customer info as an asset that can be sold if they go bankrupt.

This is a legit post. Everyone should have received notices via snail-mail about this particular act with instructions on how to opt out if desired. I have personally received at least a dozen notices from various companies, credit cards, banks, mortgage company, etc.

Anonymity on the web, or anywhere else, has become a thing of the past. Big Brother has arrived in full force.

Ok, June 1st becomes legal. Reality says this practice has been going on for years and years. Don't believe the hype. It's now legal practice, but the (illegal) practice if you may, has been going on for years. Lets get excited
