8 Months cold turkey for me. You have to want to quit.

Day 1 and 2 sucked.

Day 3 sucked.

Day 4 sucked.

Day 5 through 20 sucked.

Day 21 through 35 were ok.

Check that, they sucked too.

I think I stopped googling "how do I get through day n not smoking" around 45.

I also hid for 6 weeks, didn't go out, no bars, shit like that.

I put on 35lbs

I have saved roughly $2880.00 not supporting my 2 pack a day habit.

I chew the shit out of sunflower seeds. Roughly $300 worth so far.

We are starting a family and that was the motivation for me. That along with the inherit benefit of more sex while starting a family.

I smoked a cigar at a wedding about 3 weeks ago. I had purposely avoided cigars for fear of wanting to smoke after having one but luckily I did not wake up with that craving.

I still think about smoking but its not craving like it was during the first 6 weeks. I don't instinctively roll down the car window anymore.

Taste and smell has changed for the better. Hunger has changed. Breathing has changed, I don't "hock" like I used to. I don't spit up thick clear shit in the mornings anymore.

I hope you want to quit.

You nailed it. The day I realized I was an addict sucked too.

I lost my dad to lung cancer 7 years ago and it took me this long to finally stay quit. Fucking Addict

The wise Charlie Sheen said that we can cure it with our brains. And it is true, it's just hard as hell to do.

fyi - I stopped smoking Jan 2 this year. Why not Jan 1? Cause the Red Raiders played on New Years and I knew that was going to be stressful enough.

Good luck to all and Congrats to those that kicked it

Not sure if anyone else ever notices this, but I've had quite a few friends over the years who have had HEART ATTACKS. They seemed to quit smoking right then or rather easily. On the other hand, those with cancer( including my late sister) seem like they just can't beat the addiction. Some are sucking oxygen and just keep puffing away.

I quit several times, but the truth was that I never really wanted to quit. When you finally decide that you WANT to, and you BELIEVE that you can, then you will. My opinion - it is mostly psychological. Best of luck. It's worth it. So much better to quit - can't think of one positive reason for anyone to smoke, but multitude of positive reasons not to.

I have been smoking for a little over 7 years... I have tried numerous times to quit, most lasting no longer then 5 months... I feel like it is not hard to actually quit, its the staying off part that gets me... I use patches and gum.. Maybe its all psychological..

any advice from anyone who has quit this disgusting habit would be much appreciated..... thanks

Wayne (Dogs That Bark) chewed the chit out of the gum, and it seems to have worked for him. I mean I think he bought that gum by the bushel! :mj07:
